Despite having received unwavering support from the owners of Fenway Sports Group, manager Slot is now facing immense pressure after Liverpool lost 12 matches in all competitions and have yet to officially secure a place in next season's Champions League.
Journalist Chris Royce revealed that Liverpool's management has discussed and decided not to renew Slot's contract for the 2026/27 season. The decision is believed to have been made after discussions with key players in the dressing room. However, Liverpool are expected to announce Slot's future only after their final match of the season against Brentford.
This development is all the more noteworthy given that Liverpool had previously missed the opportunity to appoint Xabi Alonso, who had just joined Chelsea. With many Premier League teams changing managers, from Bournemouth to Crystal Palace, the pressure at Anfield is mounting.
One of the reasons Slot's future is uncertain stems from his strained relationship with Mohamed Salah. After the defeat against Aston Villa, the Egyptian striker posted a cryptic message on social media, emphasizing that Liverpool needs to return to being "an attacking team that strikes fear into every opponent."
According to British media, Salah's post received support from several Liverpool players such as Andy Robertson, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Curtis Jones. Former Liverpool player Jermaine Pennant also publicly called for the club to sack Slot after a series of poor statistics this season.
Slot's future at Anfield is therefore becoming uncertain as the Merseyside club draws to a close in the current season.
