The Tuy An tunnel is open on the Chi Thanh expressway.

The Tuy An tunnel, over 1,000m long and part of package XL01 of the Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway project, has officially had both tunnel tubes excavated and completed.

According to information from Deo Ca Group (the construction contractor), today (January 17th), the right branch of the Tuy An tunnel on the North-South expressway section from Chi Thanh to Van Phong has been excavated. Thus, excavation work for both tunnel tubes has been completed.

The Tuy An Tunnel is located on the North-South Expressway section between Chi Thanh and Van Phong.

Mr. Truong Cong Dat, Director of the XL01 Package Management Board, said that the construction of the Tuy An tunnel faced many major challenges due to complex geological conditions.

According to the original design, the tunnel was intended to penetrate through hard rock. In reality, during construction, the geological conditions in the area consisted mainly of clay, weathered rock, sand, and groundwater. This difference not only increased the difficulty of construction but also reduced the tunneling speed from an average of 6-8 meters per day to only 0.5-1 meter per day.

"Faced with these difficulties, the Management Board and relevant units quickly adjusted the construction plan, addressed arising issues, and completed the approval documents."

"The close coordination between the contractor, the supervisory consultant, and the Project Management Board has ensured funding and project progress. Thanks to the continuous efforts of the engineering and worker team, the overall project construction progress is currently 8% ahead of schedule," Mr. Dat said, adding that the completion of the Tuy An tunnel is an important step, contributing to accelerating the progress of the entire Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway.

Reportedly, immediately after the two tunnel branches are completed, the team of engineers and workers will proceed with the next stages such as excavation, reinforcement, formwork installation for pouring concrete for the tunnel lining, and installation of the ITS equipment system.

The Tuy An Tunnel will also be utilized as a service road, shortening transportation time and facilitating the coordination of materials along the entire route.

Package XL01 of the Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway project has a length of 24km. The total value of the package is 4,300 billion VND.

The route includes not only the road and the Tuy An tunnel but also 16 bridges. The contract was awarded to a consortium led by Deo Ca Group. Deo Ca Group's work, valued at 1,650 billion VND, accounts for 38% of the total contract value.

According to the report from the XL01 contract management board, the consortium of contractors is currently mobilizing 806 personnel, 505 pieces of machinery and equipment, and deploying 40 construction teams along the entire route.

The total output of the entire contract package has reached 72%. Specifically for the scope of work undertaken by Deo Ca Group, the completed output to date has reached 68%, exceeding the planned target by 8%.
