According to NBC News, a large proportion of Threads users are engaging less due to a loss of interest. Digital data analytics firm Sameweb estimates that the number of daily active users on Threads' Android app peaked at 49.3 million in early July and then dropped by nearly 80% – to just 10.3 million after a month.
According to July data from iOS and Google Play-based mobile app research firm Apptopia, the number of daily active users on Threads peaked at around 26.7 million per week after its launch and gradually declined to around 13.5 million by the end of the month.

Several celebrities who joined Threads before its public launch, such as Jennifer Lopez and Tom Brady, haven't posted since its first week. YouTube star MrBeast – the first user to reach 1 million followers on Threads – also stopped posting about a month ago.
Social media consultant Matt Navarra noted that Threads still lacks crucial features such as post search and trending topic tracking. According to Navarra, features like post scheduling and monetization would help Threads attract more users.
Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company will spend the remainder of 2023 focusing on improving core features and retaining users. The Meta CEO believes Threads is on the right track, just like Facebook and Instagram were before. Once the platform is more stable, the company will focus on community development.
Over the past month, Threads has added several new features. These include a tab displaying posts users have shared and liked in their profile, a chronological feed, and a button to share Threads posts to Instagram. The recently launched web version of Threads is also expected to boost traffic.
