Coach Ruben Amorim is considering options for the Red Devils' goal, not ruling out the possibility of finding a new goalkeeper in the context of Andre Onana being courted by Monaco.

The Portuguese coach wants a leader in defence and has long admired Emiliano Martinez - twice named FIFA World Goalkeeper of the Year (2022 and 2024).

A source revealed: "Emi is a close friend of Lisandro Martinez on the Argentina national team and is very keen to join MU. He has turned down several offers in the hope of moving to Old Trafford.

Coach Amorim is a big fan of Emiliano Martinez. He wanted to sign the Argentine goalkeeper when he was still in charge of Sporting in 2020.

Ruben Amorim wants a leader in defence and Emiliano Martinez fits that bill perfectly."

Andre Onana is facing an uncertain future after a series of disastrous mistakes since joining the Red Devils for £47m from Inter Milan.

Monaco are in contact with MU to transfer the Cameroon goalkeeper. If Onana is successfully liquidated, the door for Emiliano Martinez to join the Red Devils will be wide open.

Last year, Emi Martinez signed a five-year contract with Aston Villa, earning £150,000 a week. This season, the central English team is facing financial difficulties after failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Therefore, Aston Villa will be open to offers to buy Emiliano Martinez - currently valued at over 30 million pounds.
