A source revealed: "Emi is a close friend of Lisandro Martinez on the Argentina national team and is very keen on joining United. He has turned down several offers in the hope of moving to Old Trafford.

Coach Amorim is very fond of Emiliano Martinez. He wanted to sign the Argentine goalkeeper when he was in charge of Sporting in 2020.

Andre Onana is facing an uncertain future after a series of disastrous performances since joining the Red Devils for £47m from Inter Milan.
