One of the advantages of homemade food is that it's made in just the right quantities to order, using traditional methods, giving consumers peace of mind. Furthermore, these products are consumed through word-of-mouth; those who try them find them delicious and high-quality recommend them to others. Although homemade food is more expensive than market prices, it remains consistently popular.
Taking advantage of their existing skills, many women use their free time to make products for family use, gifts for relatives, and to sell, earning extra income. The family of Ms. Tran Kim Lien, residing in Hoa Hon hamlet, Dinh Hoa commune, has been making cold meat pate for many years. Starting with making pate for family consumption, and with encouragement from relatives to start selling, Ms. Lien began her entrepreneurial journey. Thanks to her daughter posting pictures of the dish on social media, the number of orders has increased. To reassure customers, Ms. Lien's daughter films and photographs the entire process, from selecting ingredients to preparation, and posts it on social media. After receiving orders, Ms. Lien dedicates her weekends to making the product. During the recent Tet holiday, her family sold nearly 100kg of cold meat pate.
Ms. Lien shared: “Every week I receive 2-5 orders, from customers ordering for personal use, gifts for relatives, or for parties and events. I process and deliver orders as soon as they arrive. I invested in a vacuum packaging machine to ensure the quality of the product reaches the customers. At a price of 250,000 VND/kg, after deducting all expenses, I earn several hundred thousand to several million VND per week. This income helps me cover household expenses.”
The family of Ms. Dao Ngoc Hue, residing in Dong Quy neighborhood, An Bien commune, has been involved in the dried fish making business for over 20 years. With their own unique recipe and seasoning secrets, Ms. Hue's dried snakehead and striped catfish are favored by many for their rich flavor, balanced sweet and salty taste, and vibrant color. Each day, her family processes 30-60 kg of striped catfish and snakehead fish to make dried fish for customers.
To enhance customer trust, Mrs. Hue's family always prioritizes food quality and safety. They use fresh fish as raw material, and the production process ensures hygiene and food safety, without using preservatives or artificial colors, so customers can feel confident in their purchase. Each batch of dried fish is delivered immediately, ensuring customers receive the freshest product. The selling price of dried snakehead and striped catfish ranges from 300,000 to 350,000 VND per kilogram. After deducting expenses, Mrs. Hue's family earns an additional monthly income of 6-9 million VND.
