Of these, two continuous sections, Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet and Phan Thiet - Dau Giay, approximately 200km long, will "fill" the toll collection area of the expressway from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh City. Three other expressway sections will also collect tolls at this time: Mai Son - National Highway 45, National Highway 45 - Nghi Son, and Nghi Son - Dien Chau.
These sections of the highway utilize electronic toll collection (ETC) technology. The entry points are multi-lane and free-flowing, while exit points are equipped with barriers.
In addition to the previously announced fees, each exit toll booth also displays a detailed sign: the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet section costs 900 VND/km, while the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay section costs 1,300 VND/km.
Mr. Nguyen Huy Tien, CEO of a bus company operating the Ho Chi Minh City - Nha Trang route, said that after the government begins collecting tolls on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet and Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressways, his company will recalculate ticket prices to balance revenue.
According to Mr. Tien, collecting tolls on these expressways will add to the costs for transport companies. Therefore, increasing bus fares for passengers is a necessary measure. Mr. Tien compared the situation to using National Highway 1, noting that it takes more time and involves many road tolls that are almost equivalent to those on the expressways.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre newspaper, Mr. Hoang Nghia Viet, Head of the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway Project Management Department, said that collecting tolls on the expressway will provide revenue for maintenance, repair, and reinvestment in the expressway system.
According to Mr. Viet, in addition to the toll collection system, the expressway also has an intelligent traffic management system that will control vehicles, detect violations, and quickly handle incidents on the main route.
At the entrance to each intersection, the load control system will identify overloaded vehicles, refuse service, and instruct them to turn around.
Similarly, a representative from Project Management Board 7 (the investor of the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway project) stated that after a trial period, the toll collection system along the entire route is almost complete, meeting the requirements for official operation.
"Some newly arising issues such as equipment theft and camera malfunctions do not affect toll collection. The investor will complete these items in parallel with toll collection," a representative of Project Management Board 7 said.
Meanwhile, a representative from Vietnam Expressway Technical Services Joint Stock Company (VECE - a consortium of toll collection operators) stated that the personnel responsible for toll collection on the two expressway sections had been trained several months in advance.
Therefore, when the official toll collection date is decided, the unit immediately mobilizes and deploys personnel at the operating offices, guard stations, and highway entrances and exits. "The entrances don't have guardrails, so it's simple."
"The exits have barriers and are related to toll collection, so we have to station personnel continuously to be ready to handle any issues that may arise," a VECE representative said.
