Indian Prime Minister to visit Russia in July

The RIA news agency, citing sources from the Kremlin, reported that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi may visit Russia next month.

According to Yury Ushakov, the Russian President's foreign policy aide, the Indian leader received an invitation to visit Russia in March and is expected to meet with President Vladimir Putin.

"I can confirm that we are preparing for the visit of the Indian Prime Minister ," said Yury Ushakov, without revealing a specific date for the trip.

If it takes place, this would be Prime Minister Modi's first visit to Russia since the country launched its special military operation in Ukraine more than two years ago. The Indian leader's most recent visit to Russia was in September 2019, when he attended the annual summit between the two countries in the Far Eastern city of Vladivostok.

Russia has had close ties with India since the Cold War, and New Delhi's importance as a key trading partner for Moscow has increased significantly since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Regarding Russia's military campaign in Ukraine, New Delhi has not condemned or imposed sanctions on Moscow, although Modi publicly criticized Putin in September 2022.
