The Prime Minister of Laos is about to visit Vietnam.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and his wife will pay an official visit to Vietnam, combined with co-chairing the 46th Session of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee from January 6-7.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone met with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Saudi Arabia, on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit.

During the meeting, the two Prime Ministers expressed their pleasure at the progress in bilateral cooperation over the past period, which has benefited the people of both countries. Both sides committed to working closely together to maintain and strengthen the good relationship between Laos and Vietnam, passing it on to future generations.

According to the Lao news agency, the special relationship between Laos and Vietnam is a valuable asset, a fundamental principle for the existence and development of both countries, a vital factor and important resource for protecting and developing each country, and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

The two Prime Ministers also agreed to promote the implementation of the Vietnam-Laos Strategic Cooperation Agreement for the period 2021-2030, the Laos-Vietnam Bilateral Cooperation Agreement for the period 2021-2023, and other signed agreements and plans in various fields.

Both sides agreed on the need to continue strengthening exchanges of delegations at all levels through all channels to consolidate the special and close political relationship between the two countries, coordinate closely in ensuring social order and safety, enhance security and defense cooperation, prevent and combat epidemics, and fight cross-border crime, especially drug trafficking.

Both sides affirmed their commitment to further promote bilateral economic cooperation and connectivity, while supporting each other in building independent and self-reliant economies linked to practical, deep, and effective international integration.

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone stated that Laos will continue to cooperate closely with and support Vietnam on regional and international issues.
