Welcoming the delegation at Blaise Diagne International Airport in Dakar were the Speaker of the Senegalese National Assembly , El Malick Ndiaye, several members of the Standing Committee of the Senegalese National Assembly, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria and concurrently to Senegal, Tran Quoc Khanh, embassy staff, and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Senegal. Immediately afterwards, the two Speakers of Parliament held a brief meeting.
This is the first official visit of a key Vietnamese leader to Senegal in nearly 60 years of relations between the two countries. Over the years, the two countries have maintained good friendly and cooperative relations, always coordinating and supporting each other in multilateral forums such as the UN, the Francophone Community, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)... Economic cooperation has seen positive progress, with bilateral trade reaching US$81.16 million in 2024, of which Vietnam exported US$43.91 million to Senegal. In the first four months of this year, Vietnam's exports to Senegal reached US$43.3 million, almost equal to the entire figure for last year.

Between 1997 and 2005, Vietnam sent over 100 agricultural experts and technicians to work in Senegal under the tripartite agricultural cooperation program funded by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which was highly appreciated by both FAO and Senegal.
Cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries is mainly carried out through multilateral mechanisms such as the IPU, the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly (APF), and at multilateral conferences organized by the Vietnamese National Assembly (such as the Conference of the APF Committee on Education, Communication, Culture and the Network of Women Parliamentarians in 2019, the 132nd IPU General Assembly in 2015...). The First Vice President of the Senegalese Parliament attended the APF Executive Committee Meeting in January 2025 in Can Tho City.
During his visit to Senegal, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man is expected to hold talks and meetings with the highest-ranking leaders of the host country; attend a policy and legal seminar on promoting cooperation in agriculture, trade, and investment between Vietnam and Senegal; and meet with embassy staff and the Vietnamese/Vietnamese-origin community in Senegal…
The visit of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Senegal is of particular importance in consolidating political trust and further deepening the friendly relations between the two countries.
