Welcoming the delegation at Blaise Diagne International Airport in the capital Dakar were President of the Senegalese National Assembly El Malick Ndiaye, several members of the Standing Committee of the Senegalese National Assembly , Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria and Senegal Tran Quoc Khanh, embassy officials and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Senegal. Immediately afterwards, the two National Assembly Chairmen had a brief meeting.

This is the first official visit by a key Vietnamese leader to Senegal in nearly 60 years of relations between the two countries. Over the past time, the two countries have maintained a good cooperative friendship, always coordinating and supporting each other at multilateral forums such as the United Nations, the Francophone Community and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). Economic cooperation has recorded positive progress with bilateral turnover reaching 81.16 million USD in 2024, of which Vietnam exported 43.91 million USD to Senegal. In the first 4 months of this year, Vietnam's export turnover to Senegal reached 43.3 million USD, nearly equal to the whole of last year.

During the period from 1997 to 2005, Vietnam sent more than 100 agricultural experts and technicians to work in Senegal under the Tripartite Agricultural Cooperation Program sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which was highly appreciated by FAO and Senegal.

Cooperation between the two countries' parliaments is mainly carried out through multilateral mechanisms such as the IPU, the Francophone Parliamentary Union (APF) and at multilateral conferences organized by the Vietnamese National Assembly (such as the APF Education, Communication, Culture and Women Parliamentarians Network Conference in 2019, the 132nd IPU Assembly in 2015, etc.). The First Vice President of the Senegalese National Assembly attended the APF Executive Committee Conference in January 2025 in Can Tho City.

It is expected that within the framework of this visit to Senegal, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man will have talks and meetings with the highest-ranking leaders of the host country; attend a legal policy seminar on promoting agricultural, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Senegal; as well as meet with embassy staff and the Vietnamese/Vietnamese-origin community in Senegal...

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man's visit to Senegal is of special significance in strengthening political trust and further deepening the friendly relations between the two countries.
