The effort to increase the proportion and quality of female elected representatives is gradually moving from a goal to action.

Women should not only participate in representative roles within the structure, but also truly assert their capabilities and make practical contributions to the activities of elected bodies. This is also the requirement and expectation for female elected representatives in the new era.

A major step forward in structural representation.

According to the official list of 864 candidates for the 16th National Assembly announced by the National Election Council, there are 392 female candidates (accounting for 45.37%). This number not only reflects the recognition by the Party and the State of the role of women in the new era, but also shows a clear step forward in achieving the goal of gender equality.

In Dak Lak , 11 out of 25 candidates for the National Assembly are women, accounting for 44%. For the election of representatives to the Dak Lak Provincial People's Council for the 2026-2031 term, there are 141 candidates, of which 71 are women, accounting for 53.35%.

Women members participated in a competition to learn about the election of National Assembly deputies for the 16th term and People's Council representatives at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.

Gender equality in politics is not only measured by percentages, but more importantly by the quality of participation and the level of contribution to the decision-making process. Improving the quality of female elected representatives is a concrete step towards realizing the Party's policy on female personnel work, while also meeting voters' expectations for a dynamic, responsible, and people-oriented elected body.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Thai, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province and Chairwoman of the Provincial Women's Union, emphasized: Promoting the role of female elected representatives is not only a requirement of gender equality but also a demand for development. As women participate more extensively, the quality of representation will improve, contributing to building an effective and efficient governance system that serves the people.

Playing a practical role

"Improving the quality of female cadres participating in elected bodies must be done synchronously from sourcing, planning, training to assignment and utilization. When properly prepared and given equal opportunities, female representatives will effectively play their role in deciding and supervising important issues, contributing to improving the quality of the People's Council's activities and meeting the expectations of voters," said Comrade Cao Thi Hoa An , Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council.

Over the years, female elected representatives in the province have gradually affirmed their position and quality in the activities of elected bodies. These female representatives proactively develop action programs and boldly question and propose solutions to issues directly related to people's lives.

In areas such as social security, education , healthcare, gender equality, and care for women and children, the voices of female representatives have contributed to a more humane and comprehensive perspective in the process of policy formulation and implementation. Thematic oversight activities, voter outreach, and monitoring of the resolution of citizens' petitions have been carried out seriously and responsibly.

Mr. Hoang Manh Hong, a voter from Ea Knuec commune, observed: “Through many elections, I have noticed that the attentiveness, flexibility, and perseverance of female representatives are important factors in making voter outreach activities effective. Many complex issues, when listened to and discussed thoroughly by female representatives, have created consensus among the people.”

Many voters in localities expect female representatives to continue to foster close ties with the grassroots; to enhance their policy analysis capabilities and debate and critical thinking skills to effectively participate in important decision-making. Political and social organizations also hope that women's voices will be more clearly expressed on issues related to sustainable development, ensuring social security, and improving the quality of life.

The delegation of National Assembly deputies from the province surveyed the implementation of the two-tiered government model after the merger in Xuan Lanh commune.

In practice, when given the right opportunities and opportunities to play their roles effectively, female representatives not only meet structural requirements but also truly become a force that actively contributes to improving the quality of the activities of People's Councils at all levels.

According to Ms. Phan Thi Trinh, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairwoman of the People's Council of Cu Bao Ward, the most important thing to improve the quality of female officials participating in elected bodies is to create conditions for them to be trained through practical supervision and participation in discussions on specific local issues.

Ms. Trinh cited an example: During a thematic supervision session on land management and land use right certificate issuance in the area, a female representative of the commune's People's Council proactively studied the files, compared them with legal regulations, and boldly questioned the specialized departments about long-standing problems and obstacles. This female representative clearly analyzed the causes of the delays, proposed a specific roadmap for handling them, and closely followed up on the implementation after the supervision, contributing to resolving several outstanding cases and ensuring the legitimate rights of the people.

Cases like the above demonstrate that, when well-prepared with knowledge and skills and given the opportunity to express their opinions, female delegates can fully play a role in monitoring, debating, clarifying issues, and promoting the resolution of matters to the end.
