His passing brings to an end a long and dedicated journey in football, leaving a deep sense of loss in the hearts of many generations of players, colleagues, and fans.
He is not only a talented coach but also a manager and educator who has contributed to shaping the identity of many football teams, especially Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) Club.
As a player, he was renowned for his intelligent, disciplined style of play and fierce competitive spirit. Transitioning to coaching and professional management, he made a significant impact by maximizing his organizational skills, player utilization, and system building. As Vietnamese football entered its professional era in the 2000s, Coach Nguyen Van Vinh was one of the pioneers in adopting modern football management thinking. He emphasized scientific coaching, focused on youth development, and constantly updated himself on international tactical trends. In every environment, he maintained the principle of building a solid foundation through training and collective discipline, rather than chasing short-term achievements.

A particularly significant mark in his career is associated with HAGL FC. As technical director, he was the "silent architect" behind the team's professional identity. Together with the HAGL leadership, he planned long-term development strategies, laying the foundation for a systematic youth training model that harmoniously combined individual technique with collective football thinking.
From this foundation, HAGL gradually developed a technically skilled style of play, emphasizing control and creativity – different from many teams that prioritize strength and physicality. He believed that Vietnamese players could absolutely play beautiful football if they were trained correctly and given the right trust. This viewpoint later became the guiding philosophy of the team, laying the groundwork for the emergence of generations of talented players.
Beyond his contributions at the club level, Coach Nguyen Van Vinh has also contributed his insightful professional opinions to numerous football forums. He is frank, sometimes assertive, but always driven by a desire to build a sustainable football foundation. For him, football is not simply a 90-minute game, but a long-term story of training, management, and culture.
Experts consider him to possess a rare strategic mindset. He is not afraid to debate mechanisms, management models, and the role of youth training in the national football structure. His views, while potentially controversial at the time, have proven valuable over time.
Shocked by the sudden passing of coach Nguyen Van Vinh, the HAGL club website wrote: "His enduring and quiet contributions to Vietnamese football, especially to HAGL club - the beloved team and youth academy he was once associated with - will forever be etched in the memories of fans. He dedicated his entire life to the beautiful game."
Thai football legend and coach Kiatisuk Senamuang expressed his gratitude: "Rest in peace, Coach Vinh! Thank you for always caring for and looking after me thoughtfully both on and off the field, right from the beginning. You were always there to guide and help me, and together we achieved success. I will always remember you."
Meanwhile, commentator Ngo Quang Tung expressed his emotion, saying: "Legendary player Nguyen Van Vinh had a long and influential career in Vietnamese football, contributing to the sport in various capacities over many years, including as technical director of HAGL, which brought home two V-League championships. We mourn his passing and pray that he rests in peace!"
