Gyokeres is Sweden's great hope in attack. |
Following the 2-2 draw between the Netherlands and Japan, the situation in Group F of the 2026 World Cup has become much more open. This makes the clash between Sweden and Tunisia on the morning of June 15th particularly important for both teams.
Sweden returned to the World Cup in an unbelievable way. The Nordic team didn't win a single match in the qualifying round but still secured their place through the Nations League play-offs. The biggest contributor was Viktor Gyokeres, the striker who recently joined Arsenal and is the number one hope in attack.
Coach Graham Potter has a highly experienced squad with familiar names like Victor Lindelof, Anthony Elanga, and Alexander Isak. The Isak-Gyokeres duo have scored a combined 37 goals for the national team and are expected to make a difference against Tunisia.
However, Sweden's problem lies in their defense. The team has conceded goals in 11 consecutive matches since June 2025. In their two most recent friendly matches, they lost 1-3 to Norway and drew 2-2 with Greece, highlighting a lack of stability in their back line.
Conversely, Tunisia impressed greatly in the African qualifying rounds, winning 9 out of 10 matches and conceding none. However, the recent form of the "Carthage Eagles" has caused concern among fans.
Coach Sabri Lamouchi's team was eliminated from the CAN Cup by Mali, lost 0-1 to Austria, and most notably suffered a heavy 0-5 defeat against Belgium in their final friendly before the World Cup. Tunisia is currently on a streak of three consecutive matches without scoring a goal.
Nevertheless, the African representatives still possess many notable players such as Hannibal Mejbri and Rani Khedira, the younger brother of 2014 World Cup champion Sami Khedira.
In terms of overall strength, Sweden is considered slightly superior due to the quality of their squad and their experience in European competitions. However, Tunisia is always known for its disciplined style of play and formidable defensive capabilities.
