The Ministry of Health has just issued Decision 2780 approving the plan for implementing the expanded immunization program for the period 2026-2028.
Accordingly, 13 infectious diseases will be prevented by free vaccines for children and pregnant women, including: Hepatitis B, tuberculosis, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, Hib disease, measles, rubella, Japanese encephalitis B, rotavirus diarrhea, pneumococcal pneumonia/meningitis, and HPV-induced cervical cancer.
The plan aims to maintain vaccination achievements while implementing a roadmap to increase the number of vaccines in the expanded immunization program by 2030, with the goal of achieving a 95% coverage rate for 14 types of vaccines.
Regarding the HPV vaccine, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology recommends initial deployment in four representative provinces, prioritizing disadvantaged areas, including Tuyen Quang, Quang Ngai, Dak Lak , and Vinh Long.
Starting in 2026, 11-year-old girls in these localities will receive free HPV vaccinations as part of the expanded immunization program. Between 2026 and 2028, approximately 18,000 children are expected to receive the vaccine each year.
