The Ministry of Health has just issued Decision 2780 approving the plan to implement the expanded immunization program for the 2026-2028 period.
Accordingly, 13 infectious diseases will be prevented by free vaccination for children and pregnant women, including: Hepatitis B, tuberculosis, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, Hib disease, measles, rubella, Japanese encephalitis B, diarrhea caused by rotavirus, pneumonia/meningitis caused by pneumococcus and cervical cancer caused by HPV.
The plan aims to maintain vaccination achievements while implementing a roadmap to increase the number of vaccines in expanded immunization by 2030, with the goal of achieving 95% coverage for 14 vaccines.
Regarding the HPV vaccine, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology proposed to deploy it first in four provinces representing the regions, with priority given to disadvantaged areas, including: Tuyen Quang, Quang Ngai, Dak Lak and Vinh Long.
From 2026, 11-year-old girls in these localities will be vaccinated against HPV for free under the expanded immunization framework. During the 2026-2028 period, it is expected that about 18,000 children will have access to the vaccine each year.
