Car repair shop "Don't hesitate to call"

Người Lao ĐộngNgười Lao Động08/02/2025

In the heart of bustling Ho Chi Minh City, there's a repair shop that's always brightly lit to serve customers with broken-down vehicles.

The repair shop caught attention with its simple yet heartwarming sign: "Repairing bikes day and night, we fix them whether you have money or not, free self-inflation. Don't hesitate to call!"

Open 24/7

The owner of the motorbike repair shop is Mr. Vo Thanh Vinh (60 years old; residing at 691 Au Co Street, Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City).

Mr. Vinh has been working as a motorcycle mechanic for over 30 years. He started with a simple tool basket on the sidewalk of Lac Long Quan Street, Tan Binh District, before moving to his current location. This job has helped him raise his two children, providing them with a good education and a stable home.

Pointing to the sign that reads: "Don't hesitate! Call 0903933170," Mr. Vinh explained that his repair shop is open 24/7 to serve customers. Some nights, even while asleep, he jumps up to fix a customer's tire if they call. Not only does he offer free tire patching and inflation, but Mr. Vinh is also willing to repair tires for free if the customer is in a difficult financial situation.

Despite his dirty clothes and oil-stained hands and feet, Mr. Vinh always wears a kind smile. "Day and night, at any time, on holidays or Tet (Lunar New Year), I'm always open. If people encounter any problems on the road, they can come to my shop. I don't have much, but I'm happy to help anyone I can," Mr. Vinh said.

In a corner of the shop, Mr. Vinh neatly arranges many old tires. These are tires that customers have had replaced, but Mr. Vinh keeps them because he thinks they're still in good condition, so he uses them for those who can't afford new ones. That's why Mr. Vinh's repair shop is always busy, especially with students and laborers. Understanding the owner's kindness, some well-off customers even "take the liberty" of paying for repairs to help those in need.

So that everyone can go home...

Every day, Mr. Vinh receives dozens of calls asking for free motorbike repairs, mostly from students and poor workers. Upon receiving a call, he cheerfully gives directions and tells them to bring their motorbikes to his shop. In this way, word spread.

The working people living and working near the repair shop all know about Mr. Vinh's charitable work. Therefore, whenever they encounter passersby with vehicle problems, they immediately direct them to his shop.

Mr. Nguyen Van Vy, 46 years old, a motorbike taxi driver, is a regular customer of the shop. Sympathizing with Mr. Vy's difficult life, Mr. Vinh has never charged him for repairs.

The consequences of an accident left Mr. Vinh with muscle atrophy and a leg disability since childhood. This significantly affected his mobility. Despite this, not a single customer who came to the shop was bothered; on the contrary, they admired him even more.

The shop's customer base grew, forcing Vinh to hire more assistants. Whatever extra money he earned, he gave the assistants a larger share, understanding that they also had wives and children to support.

Many times his wife and children have urged him to quit, but he ignored them, because with those small repair shops, he has helped countless unfortunate people find their way home. That simple joy is also the motivation for this kind-hearted mechanic to stay committed to this meaningful work. "People only call when they need help; helping them makes me happy and relieved, so I will continue until I no longer have the strength," Mr. Vinh confided.
