(CPV) - The Ministry of Transport (MOT) said it will continue to review the needs and planning possibilities for the construction of a new airport proposed by 10 localities to the Ministry.
On June 5, the Ministry of Transport has just sent Official Letter 6/BC-BGTVT presenting a number of contents related to the group of issues questioned at the 5555th session of the 5th National Assembly.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Transport said that the planned airport system by 2050 will have 33 airports, enough to meet the needs of socio-economic development of the whole country and regions.
In the period of 2021 - 2025, the Ministry of Transport has allocated state budget capital to renovate a number of large airports such as Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, and Con Dao. In addition, ACV - a state-owned enterprise managing 21/22 existing airports - has also invested in building Long Thanh International Airport (phase 1), T3 terminal - Tan Son Nhat, T2 terminal - Noi Bai and expanding a number of other airports.
In the coming time, ACV will continue to invest in expanding terminals and technical infrastructure works at airports as planned. For localities with proposals to build new airports (10 provinces), the Ministry of Transport will review the needs and planning capabilities. If localities have breakthrough development plans in tourism, economic zones, etc. and have social capital, they will consider adding them to the planning when eligible.
The Ministry of Transport has proposed to the Prime Minister to identify localities (Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Ha Tinh, Kon Tum, Quang Ngai, Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Dak Nong, Tay Ninh) as potential locations and assign the local government to prepare a feasibility assessment project to report to the competent authorities.
