Sources indicate that Ukraine's total public debt, including both domestic and foreign debt, has more than doubled since the beginning of 2022, from $97.96 billion to $208.97 billion, an increase of $111.01 billion.
External debt recorded the most significant increase, soaring from $57.2 billion to $162.73 billion, nearly tripling compared to 2022.
Of that amount, Ukraine owes the International Monetary Fund approximately $10 billion, with the remainder owed to other allied countries.
The sharp increase in borrowing is occurring despite the fact that a significant portion of Western aid, particularly military aid, has been and continues to be provided in the form of grants.
Based on a population of approximately 28 million people, each Ukrainian currently bears an estimated public debt of around $7,500, according to figures from the Institute of Demography and Social Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Previously, lawmakers in the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament ) estimated that simply paying off the country's existing debt could take around 35 years.
