According to The Elec (South Korea), Samsung is preparing to mass-produce the Galaxy S26+ in January. Due to the short development time, the device will likely retain the same 6.66-inch screen size as its predecessor.

Previously, rumors suggested that the Plus version would be removed from the Galaxy S26 lineup and replaced by the S26 Edge. However, due to disappointing S25 Edge sales, Samsung reportedly canceled development of the S26 Edge in October 2025, deciding to bring back the Plus model instead.

If the rumors are accurate, the Galaxy S26+ will still be a mid-range model, positioned between the standard S26 and the S26 Ultra. Notably, the rumors suggest the S26 will have a larger screen than its predecessor (6.27 inches compared to 6.16 inches).

Sources citing industry experts suggest that Samsung initially intended to utilize the OLED display already developed for the S26 Edge in the S26+. However, due to tight development timelines, the company decided to use a panel with similar specifications to the S25+.

"When Samsung stopped developing the Galaxy S26 Edge and moved on to the Plus version last October, they faced many difficulties in ensuring sufficient development time."

"With previous schedules, Samsung usually started mass-producing the Galaxy S series in December, so the product design time this time was shorter," The Elec article explained.

Due to the relatively short development-to-production timeframe, the Galaxy S26+ will not have many changes compared to its predecessor. However, rumors suggest that the S26 and S26 Ultra will only receive minor configuration upgrades.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra will begin mass production in December 2025. While the Galaxy S26 is already developed, Samsung has postponed its production to January, coinciding with the S26+.

Tech experts believe this move is aimed at concentrating production of the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Data shows that in January, the South Korean company expected to produce approximately 3.6 million S26 Ultra units, while the S26 and S26+ were expected to produce 700,000 and 600,000 units respectively.

Despite their eye-catching design, ultra-thin smartphones haven't been well-received by users. Besides the Galaxy S25 Edge, the iPhone Air also suffered the same fate.

According to Hana Securities , the Galaxy S25 Edge only sold 1.31 million units in the first three months after its launch in mid-2025, far behind the Galaxy S25+ in the same period (5.05 million units).

Similarly, Consumer Intelligence Research Partners estimated that the iPhone Air would only account for 3% of iPhone sales in the US in September 2025. By November of the same year, The Information reported that Apple had almost completely halted iPhone Air production due to excess inventory and supplier cuts.

Analysts and users believe that the failure of ultra-thin smartphones stems not from their design, but from features that are not worth the trade-off. Many reviews suggest that both devices are expensive and have poor battery life.

Rumors suggest Samsung will launch the Galaxy S26 on February 25th in San Francisco, USA. This is about a month later than usual. The reason may be the unexpected cancellation of the Galaxy S26 Edge, which was replaced by the S26+.
