The 2025/26 season is effectively over for Gnabry. |
Bayern Munich has just received bad news as Serge Gnabry will be sidelined for a long period due to a serious injury, putting him at risk of missing the 2026 World Cup.
In an official statement, Bayern confirmed that Gnabry suffered a torn adductor muscle in his right thigh after a training session. Although the club has not given a specific return date, German media reports suggest the recovery process could take between three and four months.
If that scenario unfolds, the 30-year-old's season would be effectively over. More importantly, he would be in a frantic race against time to be fit to join the German national team for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
This is a huge shock for both Bayern and the German national team. Gnabry had one of his most productive seasons in recent years. He played 37 games in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists. His ability to play well on both wings and in the center made him a crucial part of the attacking system.
Legendary player Lothar Matthaus admitted that the timing of the injury was extremely cruel. According to him, Gnabry now has to enter a real race against time if he hopes to be fit for the 2026 World Cup.
Matthaus also sent an emotional message to his younger teammate: "The whole of Germany is cheering you on to be there." This statement shows the importance Gnabry is to both professionals and fans.
Coach Julian Nagelsmann is expected to announce the preliminary squad in May. The uncertainty surrounding Gnabry's return date is certainly causing a headache for the coaching staff.
The coming weeks will decide whether Gnabry can make a timely comeback or will have to watch his teammates compete in the World Cup on TV.
