According to Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, Apple is developing the next version of the iPhone Air. The device is expected to launch in early 2027 with two rear cameras, including a main camera and an ultra-wide-angle lens.
"Apple is preparing a second-generation iPhone Air for release in early 2027, aiming to increase the appeal of this slim and lightweight model."
"The current prototypes of the product, codenamed V62, add a second rear camera for ultra-wide-angle photography," Gurman quoted an anonymous source as saying.
The iPhone Air 2 is reportedly entering advanced testing. The device has a similar appearance to the current model, except for the rear camera module which now has two lenses.
For comparison, the first-generation iPhone Air only had a single 12MP rear camera. Equipping it with two lenses offers better value for users.
Apple also wants to improve battery life on the second-generation iPhone Air, either by increasing capacity or optimizing power consumption. According to Gurman's speculation, increasing battery capacity is unlikely because the product design is unlikely to change.
Based on rumors, the second-generation iPhone Air will use the A20 processor, manufactured using a new 2nm process. This could improve processing efficiency and help the device consume less power.
According to a Bloomberg writer, the single rear camera system is the most frequently complained-about issue with the product.
Because it only has a single rear camera, the image quality of the first-generation iPhone Air is considered inferior to that of the iPhone 17, a cheaper device with two rear cameras. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are equipped with three lenses.

Previously, many rumors also suggested that Apple would add a second rear camera to the iPhone Air. In November 2025, The Information reported that Apple's decision to postpone the product launch to early 2027 was to address customer feedback, including improvements to the rear camera.
Despite attracting much attention, iPhone Air sales fell short of expectations. In early April, a survey by KeyBanc Capital Markets indicated that users had "almost no demand" for the device.
Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple cut production capacity by more than 80% immediately after launch. Partner Luxshare had to stop assembling from October 2025. Despite this, Apple is still developing the next generation of iPhone Air.
The next-generation iPhone Air is expected to launch in early 2027, along with the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e. Meanwhile, the high-end iPhone 18 Pro duo will most likely still be unveiled in September of this year.
