The door to playing football in Europe seems to have slammed shut for Lingard. |
Last December, Lingard reached an agreement to terminate his contract with FC Seoul. Three months after becoming a free agent, Lingard is reportedly set to join the lesser-known Brazilian club Remo.
According to Globo , negotiations are nearing completion. The two sides have been discussing for weeks, and a contract until the end of the season is highly likely. Remo currently plays in the Brazilian National League and is just above the relegation zone after the first three rounds.
Before moving to South America, Lingard offered himself to several English clubs. He contacted Burnley and West Ham. However, according to the English media, West Ham and Burnley refused to sign him during the January 2026 transfer window.
A number of Championship clubs, including Coventry, Middlesbrough, and Ipswich, also turned down Lingard. In Scotland, neither Rangers nor Celtic pursued the deal. Celtic considered Lingard during the winter transfer window but chose to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain instead.
After many doors closed in Europe, Lingard has the opportunity to revive his career in Brazil. This is an unexpected turn, but it could be the final turning point in the former Manchester United player's journey.
In February 2024, the 33-year-old midfielder joined FC Seoul after a short stint with Nottingham Forest. In South Korea, he made 65 appearances and scored 18 goals, a respectable record for a player whose motivation had previously been questioned.
