Garnacho has been a huge disappointment at Chelsea. |
In the 2024/25 season, Garnacho was Manchester United's most-played player, but his professional contributions weren't particularly outstanding. His form declined, especially towards the end of the season, leading to his exclusion from the Europa League final. This was a turning point that led to internal conflict and his decision to leave. Under manager Ruben Amorim, the Argentinian player was no longer part of the long-term plans.
Joining Chelsea with high expectations, Garnacho quickly fell into a spiral of disappointment. After 20 appearances in the Premier League, he only managed to score a single goal, a very modest achievement for an attacking player.
The most obvious consequences come at the national team level. Garnacho was once considered the future of Argentina when he debuted in 2023 and made his first start in 2024. However, he hasn't been called up for the past 18 months, with his last appearance for the national team not until November 2024.
In the squad list for the March 2026 matches, coach Lionel Scaloni has once again left Garnacho out. This decision almost certainly closes the player's chances of participating in the 2026 World Cup.
Notably, Garnacho had the opportunity to join Bayern Munich in the summer 2025 transfer window, but refused in favor of Chelsea. This misguided choice has now plunged his career into crisis.
From a highly anticipated talent, Garnacho has to face harsh reality. If he wants to return to his peak, the most realistic goal right now is probably the 2030 World Cup, where the journey back will almost certainly have to start from scratch.
