According to the 2023 Statistical Yearbook, the average population of Nghe An province in 2022 was 3,419,989 people. The population density was 207 people/km². Of this, the urban population was 530,452 people, accounting for 15.51%; the rural population was 2,889,537 people, accounting for 84.49%; the male population was 1,711,827 people, accounting for 50.05%; and the female population was 1,708,162 people, accounting for 49.95%. The province currently has over 500,000 people from ethnic minority groups (including the Thai, Tho, Kho Mu, H'Mong, O Du, etc.) living together. In 2022, the labor force aged 15 and over in Nghe An province was 1,623.1 thousand people. Of these, male workers numbered 867,700, accounting for 53.46%; female workers numbered 755,400, accounting for 46.54%; the urban workforce comprised 252,300, accounting for 15.55%; and the rural workforce comprised 1,370,800, accounting for 84.45%.
