Elevating the National Tourism Year
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong said that Thua Thien Hue is a locality with a long history of tourism development, with a sustainable tourism approach and a "modern" mindset.
Thua Thien Hue is one of the key localities on Vietnam's tourism map, with strengths in cultural and heritage tourism. Therefore, choosing Thua Thien Hue to host the National Tourism Year 2025 is entirely appropriate.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong and Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province Nguyen Thanh Binh co-chaired the working session.
Deputy Minister Ho An Phong stated that, based on the experience gained from organizing the previous National Tourism Year (in 2012) and numerous major cultural and tourism events in recent times, such as the Hue Festival, the province needs to set even higher standards for organizing the 2025 National Tourism Year.
"Hue needs to organize events more successfully and elevate their level to increase their attractiveness to tourists. It's not just about promoting the destination brand, but also developing festival tourism and creating festival tours to enhance experiences, meet the demands and desires of tourists, and contribute to increasing the number of tourists visiting Hue," Deputy Minister Ho An Phong expressed.
The Deputy Minister also emphasized that the National Tourism Year is not just an event that takes place over a few nights, but must also meet long-term goals.
Hue, with its advantages as the former imperial capital, possesses numerous valuable cultural heritage sites and cultural centers, along with extensive experience in organizing various events. Therefore, thorough research is needed to clarify its strengths in order to exploit and develop them.
The Deputy Minister also noted that 2025 will be a year with many major events for Thua Thien Hue, therefore the organization of events for the National Tourism Year needs to be scientifically and systematically arranged, linked with important events of the province so that 2025 will become "the year of Hue".
Nguyen Van Phuc, Director of the Thua Thien Hue Department of Tourism, presented the draft plan for organizing the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025.
At the meeting, presenting the draft plan for organizing the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025, the Director of the Thua Thien Hue Department of Tourism, Nguyen Van Phuc, stated that the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 is a significant cultural, economic, social, and tourism event of national and international scale, combined with the Hue Festival 2025, linked to the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Thua Thien Hue (March 26, 1975 - March 26, 2025) and other major national celebrations; and in response to and to welcome Hue becoming a centrally-governed city.
The event aims to introduce and promote the tangible and intangible cultural values, resources, and unique tourism products of Vietnam in general and Thua Thien Hue province in particular; attract domestic and international tourists, create a breakthrough in tourism development, and contribute to promoting the socio-economic development of the province.
The National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 will strongly promote tourism development linkages between localities nationwide to leverage strengths and potential for tourism development within and between regions, contributing to enhancing the image, position, and brand of Vietnamese tourism in general and Thua Thien Hue in particular in the coming years.
At the same time, it attracts a large number of people, international and domestic tourists to visit and experience Thua Thien Hue province, creating momentum to promote the development of other economic sectors, creating a comprehensive growth and development of tourism in Thua Thien Hue in terms of scale and quality of services, number and structure of tourists, ensuring sustainability.
The National Tourism Year and Hue Festival 2025 are expected to include 62 main programs and events. The highlight will be the Opening Ceremony of the National Tourism Year combined with the Opening Ceremony of the Hue Festival and a fireworks display celebrating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Thua Thien Hue. This event is scheduled to be held at the end of March 2025 in Hue City.
Representatives from various units of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism gave their opinions.
During the meeting, representatives from the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, the Department of Physical Education and Sports, the Department of International Cooperation, the Department of Grassroots Culture, the Department of Copyright, and other units provided specific feedback and suggestions on the contents of the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 Project. In particular, they addressed issues related to the theme, brand identity, and main activities of the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025.
Promoting tourism development in the central region of Vietnam.
Speaking at the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh said that, recognizing the important significance of organizing the National Tourism Year in 2025 for the locality, the provincial leaders had planned early and were highly determined to bid to host the National Tourism Year 2025.

Thanking the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for accompanying and supporting Thua Thien Hue in hosting the National Tourism Year 2025, the Standing Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue proposed that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism should provide more specific and detailed guidelines and directions for organizing the National Tourism Year so that the locality can implement it effectively.
For the locality, Thua Thien Hue will strive to successfully organize the event, creating a highlight and lasting impression, fully exploiting its inherent potential and advantages, and contributing to the promotion of tourism development. The goal is to make tourism a truly leading economic sector of the province.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh expressed his desire to elevate the National Tourism Year, especially in 2025, a year with many major events for Thua Thien Hue. Organizing the National Tourism Year could create a ripple effect of tourism development throughout the Central region, which is rich in potential.
"We hope to use the National Tourism Year to promote tourism in the entire Central region. This requires close cooperation between localities; Hue cannot stand alone. Therefore, we propose that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism act as a bridge to help link and develop tourism in the Central region, while also connecting with tourism in the North and South," Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh expressed.
Regarding the potential and advantages of Thua Thien Hue tourism, besides its cultural heritage, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh said that Hue also has strengths in cuisine and is building a creative city to participate in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Therefore, Thua Thien Hue proposed that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism cooperate in organizing a national or international food festival in the locality to create a highlight.
Regarding the task of propaganda and promotion, the Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province stated that this is an area where the locality still has many limitations and expressed the hope that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will support and guide Hue to do a good job of propaganda and promotion.
Regarding resources, Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh said that, in addition to the local budget, the province will also call for support from outside to create the best resources for organizing the National Tourism Year 2025.
According to Nguyen Thanh Binh, Standing Vice Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee, all contributions made at the meeting will be fully considered and incorporated into the organizational plan before being submitted to the Provincial Party Committee and the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The goal is to organize the National Tourism Year 2025 with distinctive features and high effectiveness.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong expressed strong support and agreement for Thua Thien Hue's organization of the National Tourism Year 2025. The Deputy Minister emphasized that organizing this event is not only an opportunity for Thua Thien Hue but also has significance in promoting tourism in Vietnam.
The Deputy Minister assigned the Vietnam National Tourism Administration as the main focal point, coordinating with relevant departments and divisions of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to jointly implement the National Tourism Year 2025 in Thua Thien Hue. He requested the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province to finalize the draft plan for submission to the Provincial Party Committee and the leadership of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Noting that time is running out for preparation and the National Tourism Year is fast approaching, the Deputy Minister urged Thua Thien Hue to take decisive action immediately, while expressing confidence that the 2025 National Tourism Year in Thua Thien Hue will be impressively organized with many innovations and creative ideas.
