The Quang Tri Provincial Department of Transport announced that it has completed a review and inspection of weak bridges, vulnerable locations, and culverts and spillways throughout the province.

Accordingly, the Department of Transport has compiled a list of 87 weak bridges on roads managed by districts and towns; 17 weak bridges on national highways under delegated management and provincial roads under assigned management, including 4 bridges on national highways and 13 bridges on provincial roads. Gio Linh district (24 bridges) and Vinh Linh district (30 bridges) account for the largest number of weak bridges.

The entire province has 104 weak bridges.

These bridges are located on inter-communal and inter-district roads. A series of bridges need to be newly constructed, falling into priority groups 1 and 2. Due to the weak condition of the bridges and their limited load capacity, heavy vehicles have to take detours, increasing costs and impacting socio-economic development.

Regarding weak bridges on local-managed roads, the Department of Transport proposes that the Provincial People's Committee direct the People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities to strengthen regular and periodic maintenance inspections to promptly detect signs of abnormalities and repair minor damage in order to maintain their current operational capacity.

In the long term, localities are required to review, assess, and propose priorities, reporting to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration of supplementing medium-term public investment capital for the period 2026-2030 and other legitimate sources of capital to invest in the construction of new replacement bridges.

For weak bridges on national highways, the Department of Transport has directed units to review and report to the Vietnam Road Administration to request inspection, in order to have them included in the plan for repair, reinforcement, or renovation and upgrading to ensure the structural safety of the bridges and their integrated operation.

Of the 13 bridges on the provincial road, 3 are under construction or undergoing construction procedures. For the remaining 10 bridges, the Department of Transport continues to direct increased inspections of regular maintenance work to promptly detect any abnormalities and carry out timely repairs.

At the same time, we propose that the Provincial People's Committee allow the inspection of three weak bridges on provincial roads using local road transport budget funds for 2025 or road maintenance funds for 2025, in order to plan for reinforcement, repair, or renovation and upgrading to ensure the structural safety of the bridges.

In the long term, the department proposes that the Provincial People's Committee consider allocating additional funds to invest in the construction of new bridges to replace weak bridges on provincial roads.
