Identifying herself as an introvert, My Anh said she is now more open than when she started her artistic activities because she has experienced and met more people. Debut album Em Just debuting also helped her practice the habit of being honest with herself.
During the first days of the new year, VTC News chat with My Anh about the life, career and plans for this year of the Gen Z female artist.
Both happiness and pressure when being a 'child of the family'
Starting 2024 with an album at the age of 22, does My Anh feel satisfied with herself?
Like many other people, I am always the most strict with myself. When the album was released, I still had many concerns about whether it should be this way or that way to make the product better. However, I still feel very proud of myself and the team that contributed to this project.
My Anh had her first album at the age of 22.
– With her debut album, what does My Anh expect?
For each project I will set different goals. This time, I want my debut album to be as true as possible to my current colors, emotions and personality.
Hopefully through the album, the audience will feel and connect with my music.
– Belonging to the current generation of Gen Z singers, does My Anh feel pressured because she is sometimes compared to singers of her own age?
I'm very happy because most of those artists have been my friends for a long time. My friends and I always follow and support each other's careers.
I think pressure or comparison in general are very normal and natural human emotions. However, I always try to turn it into motivation instead of a negative emotion. For me, watching each other grow together in our musical journey is a special thing.
– In real life, she is quite a timid and shy girl but is very confident when on stage, so what is My Anh's real personality?
Actually, this is the theme of my album. In every person, there are many aspects that can go hand in hand. So the answer to the above question is that both are my true self. Just like everything I share through the album, on stage, whether confident or self-conscious, happy or sad, is my true self.
– Despite her impressive achievements, many people still believe that My Anh is what she is today because her parents are famous. What do you think about this review?
I don't think I can explain to each person. The most important thing is to keep doing your best work.
My Anh is increasingly mature in her musical thinking.
– My Anh has repeatedly affirmed that she is always proud to be a "child of the family". However, have you ever felt pressured by the title "Diva My Linh's daughter"?
I think it's possible for people to be proud and stressed at the same time. When you are serious about any choice, pressure is a natural thing.
– If she weren't the daughter of My Linh and Anh Quan, would the current My Anh be even more individualistic and rebellious?
Maybe it is or maybe it isn't, but I don't know and will never know. At the present time, I am living true to myself, fulfilling my passions and music. I think that's the happiness that we have to appreciate at the present time.
My parents are my first idols
Actually, up to now, many people still only remember My Anh as "My Linh's daughter". Does My Anh ever want to escape the shadow of this title?
I believe that everyone wants the audience to remember them by their name and the music product they spent a lot of time making. But I'm really My Linh's mother's daughter (laughs). This is not only an obvious truth but also makes me happy and proud. So whether I like it or not, I will never be able to "escape" this title.
My Anh is happy to always have a supportive family.
– Do your parents support My Anh's decision to live separately?
My parents supported my decision to live on my own. I feel very grateful that my parents always trust my choices in life and my music career. This helps me be more confident, consistent with the path I'm on and happy with what I'm doing.
My Linh's mother has always been the singer's great idol.
– Do your parents interfere too much in My Anh's personal life such as work and love?
Like traditional families in Vietnam, my parents, siblings and I are very close and share many things in life.
However, my parents do not interfere too deeply in their children's personal lives. Both will simply give advice when necessary. This is the respect parents have for their children, I feel very wonderful.
– Her mother is a famous diva, so is My Anh's musical idol My Linh's mother?
My parents are always my first idols. They are also the cradle that nurtured the love of music to have the current My Anh singer.
– Does My Anh hope to become a diva like her mother?
I will and always be a My Anh singer with enthusiasm and a burning love for music. I don't know how I will change at that time, but I won't be afraid to try and change.
– What plans does My Anh have for 2024?
The year 2024 is very special to me. I started the new year with the first album of my career and was fortunate to be well received by everyone. This gives me more motivation to continue my efforts to create and innovate my own music.
Of course, I will still persevere and not stop on the path I have chosen. In 2024, I will try to have more good products to bring to the audience. Hope the audience will follow and support!
