HANOI IS FASCINATING FROM THE VERY FIRST DAYS OF YOUR TRIP

For many foreigners (Western visitors), Hanoi has always been a truly Asian city. The capital of Vietnam is also a great place to live, where visitors can experience and entrust their lives.

Having lived in Vietnam for four years, Sebastien Techer (42 years old, French) shared that during his time in the S-shaped country, he had many opportunities to travel to famous places such as Phu Quoc Island (Kien Giang), Da Nang City, Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa), Quy Nhon City (Binh Dinh), Hai Phong City… In addition, he also traveled by motorbike to Ta Xua (Son La), Sa Pa Town (Lao Cai)…

Many foreign tourists enjoy banh mi in Hanoi.

Having spent a considerable amount of time in Vietnam, Sebastien Techer has deeply ingrained himself in the image of the Vietnamese people and culture. “Vietnamese people are very friendly. They are always ready to help me with a radiant smile. Although Vietnamese is quite difficult, during my four years working here, I have learned to communicate and better understand the Vietnamese people and culture,” said Sebastien Techer.

In particular, Sebastien Techer was very impressed with Hanoi. In his eyes, Hanoi is a great city where he gets to work with very friendly colleagues. He also finds Vietnamese cuisine delicious, and is particularly impressed with Hanoi's street food, such as fish noodle soup, sweet soups, or banana cake after a main meal.

Although he has only been in Vietnam for three weeks, Callum Fearon (26 years old, a tourist from Iceland) clearly feels comfortable in Hanoi. “I chose Hanoi as my final destination on my trip to Vietnam. When I arrived, I found the people of Hanoi very relaxed, lovely, and helpful throughout our journey. Even though I've only been here for a few days, I've already felt the culture of the capital; it's a blend of modern, international culture and traditional culture, like the Old Quarter and many other interesting things. Hanoi's food is delicious and unique, with a distinct flavor compared to other places I've visited in Vietnam. I'm very impressed with the banh mi with pork sausage, meat, and fresh vegetables…,” said Callum Fearon.

Like Callum Fearon, Frida Spur (21 years old, a Danish tourist) said she had spent 20 days experiencing many famous places in Vietnam. And even though she had only been in Hanoi for 2 days, she found it very interesting. What impressed Frida Spur the most was the friendliness of the people of Hanoi, who always greeted her with smiles.

“Vietnam’s capital is very modern. I find it easier to communicate in English with people in Hanoi than in other cities. I really enjoy talking to them while strolling around, because through that I learn so many interesting things about Vietnamese culture. Later, when I return to Denmark, I will try making some dishes when I have the chance to experience them here,” she said.

"NO PLACE HAS HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON MY LIFE AS VIETNAM"

Sam Mittal (a 35-year-old British English teacher) previously worked as an IELTS examiner for several centers in Ho Chi Minh City. He came to Vietnam in 2018 and has been living in Ho Chi Minh City ever since.

Sam has traveled the world and taught in 28 countries; but with Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City, Sam never thought he would feel such a natural affection for the place as he does now.

Sam enthusiastically recounted his journeys and travels in Vietnam, then remarked: “The beauty of Vietnam lies not only in its landscapes or the vibrancy of its developed cities. Vietnam also possesses a deeply humanistic beauty, a warmth of human kindness; it lies hidden deep within the hearts of its people. The affection, care, and hospitality that Vietnamese people show to foreigners like me are truly precious and unparalleled. It's not just a simple act of polite communication, but a profound expression of culture.”

The modern center of Ho Chi Minh City is reaching new heights.

Sam emphasized: “Nowhere has impacted my life as much as Vietnam. Every province in Vietnam has its own story. From the terraced rice fields adorning the hillsides in the north to the winding waterways in the west, every landscape bears the mark of history. Moreover, for me, whether in bustling Hanoi or the peaceful villages of Sa Pa, every corner of Vietnam has kind-hearted people, kind stories, and all of these things have enriched my soul, taught me lessons about humility and smallness.”

Sam also shared that he is captivated by Vietnamese cuisine, likening it to a "cultural tapestry" of the country. For Sam, what he found most clearly during his travels in Vietnam was the "sense of peace and belonging" he experienced there.

Sam Mittal took a souvenir photo while traveling in Ha Giang.

Sam expressed gratitude for the journey and thanked the country and people of Vietnam for making him happy: “Thank you, Vietnam, a country with majestic beauty and kind-hearted people, for being a refuge for me and for anyone seeking peace and a true sense of belonging. Thank you, Vietnam, for always opening your arms to welcome us.”

"I want to come here because of the Mekong River."

On his fourth visit to Can Tho, British billionaire Joe Lewis spoke about the idea of having a marina in the city and a cross-border cruise along the Mekong River.

Joe Lewis, 87, with a net worth of over $6.2 billion, is known as the owner of English Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur from 1991 until he stepped down in 2022.

Upon returning to Can Tho in June 2022, Joe Lewis was presented with a rice painting and the famous folk verse by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, Tran Viet Truong: "Can Tho, with its white rice and clear water, whoever goes there will not want to leave."

Billionaire Joe Lewis's superyacht Aviva has visited Can Tho four times.

Upon hearing the explanation, Joe Lewis was thrilled: "The folk verse is very true," because for him (then 85 years old), the remaining time was dedicated to what he loved most, and Can Tho was a particularly special destination.

As dusk falls, looking out from the Ninh Kieu pedestrian bridge at the confluence of the Hau River, the main branch of the Mekong River, with the Can Tho River, visitors are captivated by the beauty of the scenery. Con Noi and Con Au islets appear like mystical green islands as the golden sunlight reflects off the centuries-old mangrove trees. Not far away, at times, billionaire Joe Lewis's superyacht Aviva, worth over $150 million, is anchored in the middle of the river, drawing admiration from everyone.

On this side of the river, the rhythm of life in a riverside city is bustling with the sounds of engines from boats and barges sailing up and down the river, and floating restaurants begin to light up, preparing for nighttime river tours.

Comparing Can Tho to other destinations, billionaire Joe Lewis succinctly stated: "Can Tho has something unique, a city of rivers and waterways, with the Mekong River flowing through it." According to Joe, unlike other coastal cities where Aviva cruises have to anchor far out at sea, in Can Tho, it only takes 5-10 minutes to reach Ninh Kieu wharf and immerse oneself in the local life. From Can Tho, the cruise ship can also refuel and resupply with food to continue its journey with many exciting options such as sailing upstream on the Mekong to Phnom Penh, Cambodia; or sailing offshore to Phu Quoc, or upstream to Ho Chi Minh City…

Just like the British billionaire, in the eyes of many international tourists, the impression of Can Tho is always associated with its rivers and waterways. Stella, from India, shared: “I came to Can Tho because I wanted to explore the local culture along the Mekong River. After 3 days here, I am truly impressed by the cool atmosphere and the people always smiling.”

Pierre Anthony Camps Mercado, an American man, was captivated by the culture and the connection between urban and rural life in the Mekong Delta: "Just a 30-minute motorbike ride and I can see so many orchards and rice paddies belonging to farmers; it's very different from the desert region of my homeland." Because of his fascination with the Mekong Delta, Pierre stayed in Vietnam to teach English and eventually became a son-in-law of Can Tho.

IMPRESSIVE BEST DESTINATION IN ASIA

Surpassing many currently popular destinations and even stringent selection criteria, Da Nang City is the only representative from Vietnam in the Top Asia and ranks second in the list of 11 best destinations in Asia that tourists should visit in 2024, as announced by the prestigious American travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller .

Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills

In particular, the visit of billionaire Bill Gates to Da Nang City and his tea-drinking experience on the top of Ban Co Mountain, Son Tra Peninsula, in early March 2024, once again put Da Nang City on the world tourism map.

Tourist Anna Marycheva (Russian nationality) shared that Da Nang city attracted her with its local life experiences. During her vacation in Da Nang, she was not only impressed by attractions such as Ba Na Hills, the Golden Bridge, the beautiful beaches of Da Nang and water sports activities, but also enjoyed seafood and local specialties such as Quang noodles, rice paper rolls with pork, and vermicelli with fermented fish sauce…
