Tottenham make history

Early this morning (May 22), Tottenham defeated MU 1-0 in the Europa League final held at San Mames Stadium (Bilbao, Spain).

Both teams went into the final with poor Premier League seasons behind them. They needed a win to qualify for next season's European Cup. Tottenham did it. It confirmed the revival under Postecoglou. In the Australian's 100th game, Spurs also reached 150 wins in European competition.

Man United had more possession and more shots than Tottenham. However, the brilliance of goalkeeper Vicario and the lack of luck of the strikers meant the Red Devils could not find the net once.

The only goal of the match came in the 42nd minute. Pape Sarr crossed the ball very awkwardly. Johnson rushed in to kick the rebound but failed. But the ball hit Shaw and flew into the net, leaving Onana helpless.

A somewhat lucky goal for Tottenham, it also shows the lackluster professionalism of the 2024/25 Europa final.

The defeat in the final ended Manchester United's 15-match unbeaten streak in the Europa League. Not stopping there, the Old Trafford team was absent from the European arena for the first time in 10 years. This can be considered the worst season in the history of the team called "Red Devils".

This is Tottenham's first Europa League title (Spurs previously won the UEFA Cup - the old name of the Europa League - in the 1971/72 and 1983/84 seasons) and the first title after 17 years of waiting.
