Ho Chi Minh City opens a ferry terminal in Thu Thiem.

After three months of renovation, the Saigon River ferry terminal on the Thu Thiem side reopened on the afternoon of February 7th (the 28th day of the 12th lunar month), creating a new destination for ferry passengers and tourists during Tet.

The nearly 2,000 square meter pier is a component of the Saigon riverside park in the Thu Thiem urban area, Thu Duc City, and was renovated about three months ago using private capital. This area, opposite Bach Dang Wharf in District 1, is considered a prime location in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City.

The ferry terminal is located more than 100 meters from the former Thu Thiem ferry terminal, which was originally planned as an inland waterway terminal but has remained unutilized for many years. Currently, the terminal area has been renovated with modern facilities, ticket sales points, and piers, accommodating passenger vessels and river buses. Green spaces and various amenities such as food and beverage services, restrooms, and parking have been arranged around the terminal, making it convenient for residents and tourists to enjoy recreation and entertainment.

Mr. Nguyen Kim Toan, Director of Thuong Nhat Co., Ltd. (Saigon Waterbus - the investor), said that the Thu Thiem ferry terminal, once put into operation, will not only be a transportation hub but also hold cultural and historical value, preserving the legacy of the Thu Thiem ferry terminal, which is over 100 years old.

"The pier has been renovated with a blend of modern and historical landscapes, creating a destination for locals and tourists to visit, admire the scenery, and wait for boats," Mr. Toan said, adding that after the ferry terminal becomes operational, the unit will also open a ferry route connecting the two banks of the river, from Bach Dang to Thu Thiem and vice versa, creating opportunities for locals and tourists to enjoy recreation and develop tourism in the space on the Saigon River.

Besides the train station, the Saigon riverside park in Thu Thiem also has many other newly renovated features completed by Thu Duc City, becoming a popular destination for people to visit during Tet (Lunar New Year), such as sunflower fields, riverside tree-lined gardens, and multi-functional community activity areas. The sunflower field, covering 5,200 square meters with approximately 20,000 plants, is currently in full bloom, attracting many visitors for recreation and photography. In addition, a series of floating rafts planted with aquatic plants and a section of the community activity area have also been completed, creating a fun space for Tet.
