There's only about a week left until 2026. However, the consumption of calendars on the market has decreased significantly compared to the same period last year.
Since the end of November 2025, Oanh Binh Bookstore in Tam Thanh Ward has proactively imported block calendars, wall calendars, desk calendars, etc., to meet customer demand. However, according to a representative of the bookstore, sales of these types of calendars have decreased relatively sharply this year.
Ms. Nguyen Phuong Thao, manager of Oanh Binh bookstore, said: "In previous years, customers would start buying calendars at the store around the end of November. However, this year, the store only started selling the first calendars in mid-December. Each day, the store sells about 10-20 calendars, mainly wall calendars in the price range of 70,000-200,000 VND. Compared to the same period last year, calendar sales have decreased by about 20%."

Meanwhile, at the Provincial Post Office – one of the largest calendar distributors in the area – the number of calendars sold has also decreased. According to Ms. Le Thi Minh Trang, Deputy Director of the Provincial Post Office, to serve customer needs for the Lunar New Year of the Horse in 2026, the unit has deployed a diverse range of 2026 calendar designs with over 50 calendar codes from several major suppliers such as Ngan Ha, An Hao, Tri Duc, Dai Viet A, Thong Nhat, and the Information and Communications Publishing House... Despite this, calendar sales this year have decreased by about 12% compared to 2025. Estimated calendar revenue is only about 88% compared to the same period last year.
According to our reporter's investigation, the 2026 calendar market is very rich and diverse. The main theme focuses on the image of a "golden horse," beautifully printed on the cover, symbolizing prosperity, strength, and breakthroughs. In addition, many calendars are presented around traditional cultural themes such as wealth, fortune, and happiness, folk songs, and proverbs to attract customers. Furthermore, according to representatives of several suppliers, the prices of 2026 calendars remain almost unchanged compared to 2025. Specifically, a 38 x 53 cm block calendar costs over 700,000 VND; desk calendars cost between 30,000 and 70,000 VND depending on the type. However, the number of customers at stores and suppliers has decreased significantly compared to previous years. For almost a month now, customers in stores have been choosing to buy calendars in the price range of 30,000 to 300,000 VND.
To stimulate demand for 2026 calendars, some businesses have accepted reduced revenue and implemented promotions offering discounts of 10-20% on various types of calendars. Despite this, sales at these stores remain negligible.
Ms. Pham Minh Trang from Tam Thanh ward said: "Normally, around the end of December, I would prepare to buy Tet calendars. However, this year I haven't bought a new calendar yet. This is partly because nowadays people tend to check calendars online via mobile phones and computers, so they use traditional calendars less often. On the other hand, my family also received calendars as gifts from relatives working at various organizations. I plan to buy a calendar in the last days of December 2025 because that's when stores offer big discounts."
Meanwhile, at printing facilities, the number of orders for printing various types of calendars in the area has also decreased sharply. According to Ms. Doan Thi Tich, Director of Lang Son Printing Joint Stock Company, compared to the same period last year, the number of orders for printing Tet calendars for 2026 has decreased by 40%. This is not only due to the trend of consumers reducing their purchase of traditional calendars but also because the merger of agencies and units in 2025 has significantly reduced the company's customer base.
According to assessments from calendar suppliers, demand for calendars will surge in the final days of the year. Therefore, in addition to continuing to maintain promotional policies, these businesses will continue to monitor the market and be prepared to reduce sales to ensure the sales volume of this product.
