In addition to improving the quality of human resources with appropriate numbers and structure, and ensuring that this workforce operates effectively in providing primary healthcare services, the provision of medicines is also considered a fundamental solution to attract people to seek medical examination and treatment at health stations.
In 2022, the Department of Health advised on expanding the list of drugs covered by health insurance at health stations. More than 30 types of drugs for treating non-communicable chronic diseases and several other essential medicines were added by the Ministry of Health to the list of drugs covered by health insurance at health stations, contributing to increased benefits for people when seeking medical examination, treatment, and treatment management at the grassroots level. The city also continued to propose adding several more drugs for community mental health care to be covered by health insurance at health stations.
The Department of Health stated that since the Law on Bidding came into effect on January 1, 2024, it has developed a general drug procurement plan for the grassroots healthcare system to strengthen the capacity to supply drugs for treatment needs, especially at health stations in the area. This policy has received the consensus of the People's Committees of districts, counties, and Thu Duc City, and has been unanimously implemented for the health centers.
