In the second half, Tayfun Tasdemir persistently chased down Tran Thanh Luc and at one point narrowed the gap to just 3 points. When the Vietnamese player led 49-40 and was only 1 point away from victory, his opponent created drama with a series of 7 consecutive points.
Nevertheless, Tran Thanh Luc managed to score the decisive point to win 50-47. This is Tran Thanh Luc's first title at the Carom World Cup (3-cushion World Cup). He is the third Vietnamese athlete – after Tran Quyet Chien and Tran Duc Minh – to achieve this feat.
At the Bogota leg of the World Cup carom tournament, Vietnam had five players competing. Among them, the biggest hope was Tran Quyet Chien (world number 3). After the 1983-born player was eliminated, his teammate Tran Thanh Luc created a major surprise. The player, ranked 11th before the tournament, made a name for himself by defeating world number one star Dick Jaspers in the semi-finals.
