The first Buddhist Journalism Award in 2024 was held with the theme "Promoting a good lifestyle - a beautiful life, Vietnamese Buddhism accompanies the nation". The event is not only a journalism competition but also aims to spread moral values in the topic of Buddhism to the community.
Speaking at the ceremony, Most Venerable Thich Gia Quang - Vice Chairman of the Executive Council, Head of the Central Information and Communications Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Head of the Organizing Committee of the award said that since its official launch on June 18, 2024, the award has received attention and positive response from press agencies, reporters, journalists and collaborators nationwide. There were 534 valid works entered the final round. Of which, 288 were from print and electronic newspapers; 228 were from radio and television; and 18 were from photojournalism.
There were 36 winning works with 39 prizes awarded, including 33 prizes for 5 journalism categories; 1 prize for the press agency with the most works entering the final round; 1 individual prize with the most works entered; 3 prizes for pilgrimages to Buddhist relics in India and 1 special prize.

These works reflect various aspects of Buddhism in life, from Dharma propagation activities, social charity, cultural heritage preservation to stories about mindful lifestyle and Buddhist moral values. The works are imbued with the breath of the times and the spirit of Buddhism.
Venerable Thich Gia Quang shared that the Organizing Committee happily congratulates and honors the outstanding contributions of collectives, individuals, and teams of journalists to Buddhist journalism in general, and congratulates the authors, groups of authors, and press agencies whose works won awards.
The Venerable emphasized that the first National Buddhist Journalism Award is an important milestone, not only in the communication work of the Sangha but also the starting point of the professional communication process about Buddhism, contributing to conveying the message of Buddhism to modern social life.
According to the Venerable, Buddhist media is not only a means of propagating the Dharma but also a messenger of compassion and wisdom, contributing to building a healthy, benevolent and humane society. The award ceremony coincides with the preparation for the 100th Anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), once again affirming the spirit of engagement, harmony and development of Vietnamese Buddhism in the new era.
Launching the Buddhist Journalism Award 2025
Following the success of the first award, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha launched the 2025 Buddhist Journalism Award to recognize and honor the contributions of the press in communicating about Buddhism.
The award aims to introduce and promote the results and achievements of Vietnamese Buddhism, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the community of monks, nuns and Buddhists in the cause of national construction and development.
Through this, we discover typical examples of a good religious and social lifestyle and contribute to the propagation of the Dharma. The award also aims to encourage monks, nuns, and Buddhists to join hands and contribute more to the cause of developing Buddhism, building great religious solidarity, and accompanying the nation.
The award is also an opportunity to encourage and motivate journalists and Buddhist media workers to exchange professional experiences, improve the quality and effectiveness of press information in the field of religion in general and Buddhism in particular.
This year's awards include a special prize worth 100 million VND along with First, Second, Third and Consolation prizes.
Contestants are professional journalists, reporters, editors of central and local press agencies, lay people, monks, nuns, scholars, collaborators and freelance authors with articles on Buddhist topics published in licensed media.
Entries must be in print, electronic, radio, television and photojournalistic formats. Entries must be published or broadcast on licensed press publications and must not have previously participated in or won any other press competition. Each individual or group of authors may submit a maximum of 5 entries reflecting the same content.
Contest entries should be sent to the Organizing Committee by post to the address: Room 221, Quan Su Pagoda, 73 Quan Su, Hanoi or via email: [email protected], the submission period is from June 6, 2025 to January 5, 2026.
