Prospects from the organic rice production model

Established in mid-2023, the Tan Hung Agricultural and Forestry Trade and Service Cooperative has 9 members, with Mr. Vi Van Mung (of the San Chay ethnic group, residing in Vu Bon commune) as its Director. Its goal is to focus on producing three high-quality rice varieties – Dai Thom 8, ST24, and ST25 – using organic farming methods.

The cooperative's rice-growing area is located in a semi-mountainous region, where the soil and land conditions are not as favorable as in many other places. Director Vi Van Mung tirelessly contacted and collaborated with suppliers of materials and experts, organizing numerous field workshops and transferring scientific and technical knowledge to the people to ensure they mastered cultivation techniques. As a result, cooperative members became more confident in production, applying new techniques, investing in intensive farming to increase crop yields, sharing experiences, and supporting each other with seeds and capital... all aimed at developing the rice-growing area.

"The land rewards hard work," Mr. Mung said, unable to hide his joy. He shared that with the same plot of land and the same old crops, but with the cooperative's new production mindset and methods, they have achieved continuous success, with productivity and output steadily increasing season after season.

The cooperative currently has 9 members and 88 associate members, all of whom are ethnic minorities, cultivating 200 hectares of specialty rice varieties such as Dai Thom 8, ST24, and ST25. The cooperative provides agricultural supplies and guarantees the purchase of rice from its members and farmers in neighboring localities. On average, the cooperative harvests 10,000 tons of fresh rice annually, which is purchased directly from the fields by factories in Long An (now Tay Ninh ), Dong Thap, and Can Tho City at prices ranging from 10,000 to 10,500 VND/kg. At times, many units and businesses are willing to buy rice produced by the cooperative at prices 100-200 VND/kg higher than the market price.

Currently, Tan Hung Agricultural and Forestry Trade and Service Cooperative is producing high-quality rice, promoting the development of OCOP rice products, and becoming a specialized high-quality rice farming area in Dak Lak province.
