On the afternoon of January 4th, Military Hospital 175 ( Ministry of National Defense ) announced that an EC225 aircraft with registration number VN-8620 of the 18th Army Corps, along with the hospital's air ambulance team, had safely transported a critically ill patient from An Bang Island to the mainland.
Reportedly, Mr. D.MV (28 years old, from Quang Nam province) is a repairman on the island.
Military Hospital 175 has requested permission from the Military Medical Department, Ministry of National Defense, to safely transport critically ill patients to the mainland for emergency medical care.
On January 1st, Mr. V experienced fatigue, vomiting, and loss of appetite. The following day, the patient developed a high fever and chills, reaching 39.5 degrees Celsius, and was transferred to the An Bang Island infirmary.
Following a consultation with Military Hospital 175, doctors diagnosed the patient with meningitis, differentiating it from subarachnoid hemorrhage. Treatment included sedatives, antibiotics, fluid and electrolyte replacement… After one day, the condition did not improve, and the prognosis was difficult.
At 5:00 AM on January 3rd, an EC225 helicopter with registration number VN-8620 of the 18th Army Corps, piloted by Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Tien (Deputy Director of the 18th Army Corps Training Center), along with the Air Medical Team (Military Hospital 175), departed from Tan Son Nhat Airport.
By 7:30 PM that same day, the air ambulance team reached the patient on An Bang Island. At that time, the patient was unconscious, had open eyes but was unresponsive, highly agitated, showed signs of septic syndrome, central nervous system infection, and neck stiffness.
The patient received emergency treatment at the An Bang Island infirmary.
After the patient received on-site emergency care and their condition stabilized, the medical team transported them by plane to the mainland for further treatment.
The transport process was difficult because the patient was unconscious and uncooperative, requiring the use of sedatives and close monitoring of respiratory status.
The emergency flight crew must implement disease prevention and infection control measures to ensure safety, as the cause of the illness has not yet been determined.
The flight involved a long flight time, harsh weather conditions, and a landing at Truong Sa Island for refueling.
At 11:30 PM, the EC225 aircraft with registration number VN-8620 of the 18th Army Corps landed safely at Military Hospital 175. The patient was quickly transferred to the Emergency Department.
The team quickly conducted tests and held consultations to diagnose and provide specialized treatment for the patient.
