Vietnam will face Iraq at My Dinh Stadium in the second match of Group F of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian region, at 7 PM on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. In their opening match, Vietnam won 2-0 away against the Philippines, while Iraq defeated Indonesia 5-1.

The match was officiated by Qatari referee Abdulla Al-Marri. In Iraq's opening match against Indonesia, the referee was also Arab Ahmed Eisa (UAE).
Group F of the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers consists of four teams: Iraq, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia. The teams play a double round-robin format, with points awarded to determine the top two teams from each group who advance to the third round. The third round comprises 18 teams, divided into three groups, with the top two teams from each group qualifying directly for the World Cup finals. The third and fourth-placed teams from each group in the third round will advance to the fourth round to compete for two more spots. The third and fourth-placed teams in the fourth round will advance to the fifth round, where one team will compete in a play-off against a representative from another federation. The play-off round consists of six teams, with two teams advancing to the finals.
