Indonesian defender sparks outrage.

Indonesian naturalized center-back Justin Hubner caused a public outcry after a dangerous foul on Lewis Holtby.

In the match between NAC Breda and Fortuna Sittard in the 30th round of the Dutch national championship (Eredivisie) on April 12th, Hubner made a tackle on Holtby just outside the penalty area, resulting in a serious calf injury for the German player.

Holtby fell to the ground in pain. When the cameras zoomed in, a large gash on his left leg was clearly visible. Medical staff immediately rushed onto the pitch to treat him, before the 35-year-old midfielder was forced to leave the field.

Remarkably, Hubner received no cards, fueling outrage on social media. One user wrote: "He should have been sent off." Another commented: "What's wrong with the referee? It was clearly a horrific foul." Yet another remarked: "If this were the Premier League or the Champions League, Hubner would have been punished."

After the fight, Hubner proactively apologized and expressed concern for Holtby, asserting that he had no intention of injuring his opponent. In response, Holtby showed empathy and professionalism.

He shared: "Don't worry about it, things like this happen often in football. I appreciate your kind words."

Not stopping there, the former Tottenham player also publicly praised Hubner on social media, calling him "a great person" and commending the defender's fair-play spirit.

Hubner became a naturalized Indonesian citizen and has played for Indonesian national teams since 2024, making a total of 20 appearances. This season, he also scored 2 goals in 21 matches for Fortuna Sittard.
