Efforts to preserve and disseminate heritage
Over the years, Hai Phong has implemented a series of activities to preserve and promote the heritage of Trạng Trình. The city has organized many in-depth scientific seminars on his life, career, and contributions to national history.
The Nguyen Binh Khiem Temple, a special national historical site, is being planned, restored, and renovated in a sustainable manner. The Trang Trinh Temple Festival has also been inscribed on the national list of intangible cultural heritage, becoming a highlight of the local spiritual culture.
Simultaneously, the city has collected and compiled documents related to his life and works. To date, the organizing committee has compiled a bibliography of nearly 500 documents, including 48 works by Nguyen Binh Khiem himself, and hundreds of related studies and articles. This is an important foundation for the scientific dossier to be submitted to UNESCO in the near future.
According to Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong , Hai Phong has long been known as the birthplace of many outstanding intellectuals, most notably the scholar Nguyen Binh Khiem. Commemorating the 450th anniversary of his death in 2035 will not only evoke gratitude but also serve as an opportunity to strengthen cultural identity and national pride for present generations.
From a cultural perspective, the local authorities' efforts to place Nguyen Binh Khiem in his rightful position as an internationally renowned figure are evident. The values he left behind regarding life, philosophy, and righteousness are not only significant for the Vietnamese people but also possess universal humanistic value, aligning with the global trend of honoring great intellectual figures.
Towards the UNESCO dossier
The most notable highlight of the series of activities was the survey of the Hai Phong - Trang Trinh spiritual tour , connecting the Mac Dynasty, Trang Trinh's temple, and Mao Dien Confucian Temple. This journey recreates the cultural space where he lived, studied, and taught, while creating a profound cultural tourism product that contributes to spreading the values of this historical figure to a wider audience.
The Hai Phong – Trang Trinh Spiritual Heritage tour is expected to become a unique and distinctive tourism product of Hai Phong. Combining culture, history, and cuisine, the Trang Trinh Spiritual Heritage tour promises to attract a large number of domestic and international tourists, creating a unique and different tourism product compared to other localities.
To prepare for the 2035 milestone, Hai Phong is developing a medium-term investment plan for the 2026-2030 period to continue restoring the Trang Trinh historical site system. The city will coordinate with specialized units to finalize the explanatory materials, upgrade infrastructure, and standardize tourism services, ensuring quality service when this cultural tour officially goes into operation.
The endeavor to honor Trạng Trình is not only the responsibility of the cultural sector, but also a shared journey of the community to spread the beautiful values of Vietnamese intellect. From literary heritage to philosophical thought, from academic achievements to folk influence, all these values are being systematically revived and connected, helping the image of Trạng Trình continue to shine in contemporary life.
