From Hanoi T&T to Public Security - T&T:

When Vietnamese sports fans think of Mr. Do Quang Hien, they often picture a football club owner who has invested in the sport for 20 years. However, not many people know that he has also invested in table tennis for… 18 years!

While the T&T Hanoi Football Club was founded in 2006 (renamed Hanoi in 2016, it is the most successful club in the history of Vietnamese professional football), a year later, Mr. Hien, in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of T&T Group, established the Hanoi T&T Table Tennis Club in October 2007 with 100% investment from T&T Group.

The SEA Games gold medal after 26 years.

With modern equipment and continuous investment and innovation to keep up with the general development trends, after nearly 20 years of operation with the goal of developing and training professional athletes, Hanoi T&T Table Tennis Club has produced renowned names such as Tran Tuan Quynh, Phan Huy Hoang, Nguyen Ngoc Tu, Dinh Anh Hoang, Le Dinh Duc, Tran Mai Ngoc..., who are champions of Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Dinh Anh Hoang and Tran Mai Ngoc brilliantly won the gold medal in table tennis at the 2023 SEA Games.

Most notably, at the 2023 SEA Games, Dinh Anh Hoang and Tran Mai Ngoc brilliantly brought home the gold medal in mixed doubles for Vietnamese table tennis after a 26-year wait since Vu Manh Cuong and Ngo Thu Thuy won at the 1997 SEA Games.

Behind this precious gold medal is the presence of coach Vu Manh Cuong and, above all, the presence of Chairman Hien. Why?

Because Vu Manh Cuong is a big name in Vietnamese table tennis. He not only won the Vietnamese championship 7 times, but also brought home 3 SEA Games gold medals for Vietnamese table tennis, including two men's singles gold medals (1995, 2001) and one mixed doubles gold medal (1997). In 2008, while serving as head of the table tennis department and head coach of the Hai Duong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism's table tennis team, Cuong surprised everyone by moving to coach the Hanoi T&T Table Tennis Club. Mai Ngoc and Anh Hoang are two talents he discovered and trained.

Tran Mai Ngoc was born in 2004 in Binh Duong (formerly Binh Duong). Her father passed away when she was only 2 years old, and her mother worked as a garment factory worker. Coach Vu Manh Cuong discovered her talent and persuaded her family to let Mai Ngoc join Hanoi T&T when she was only 9 years old. Eight years later, in 2021, Mai Ngoc shone brightly. At the national championship, Mai Ngoc successively defeated two "legends" of Vietnam, Mai Hoang My Trang and Phan Hoang Tuong Giang, to win the national championship. At the 31st SEA Games on home soil in Vietnam, Mai Ngoc won two bronze medals in the women's doubles and women's team events. At the 32nd SEA Games, Mai Ngoc upgraded her medal from bronze to... gold!

Meanwhile, Dinh Anh Hoang, 23 years old, a rising star of the team but born in Dak Lak, is also a discovery of the Hanoi T&T training academy. Hoang and Mai Ngoc won the gold medal in mixed doubles at the 2023 SEA Games, and Hoang also won the national men's singles championship in 2025.

Chairman Hien awarded Mai Ngoc and Anh Hoang each 250 million VND after their achievement of winning gold medals at the 2023 SEA Games.

Based on this information, Hanoi T&T's investment and development strategy for table tennis is very similar to that of football: discovering and training talented young athletes, utilizing talent from across the country, and simultaneously "hunting" for skilled managers and highly qualified coaches.

The word "Vision" goes with the word "Heart".

It would be a huge oversight to only talk about "Vision" without mentioning the "Heart" of Chairman Hien in the formation and development of Hanoi T&T Table Tennis Club as well as CAND - T&T.

The 2025 National Men's Team Gold Medal for CAND - T&T prominently features the name of Le Dinh Duc. Duc's success wasn't simply due to his victories contributing to the team gold medal; above all, he overcame himself and a fate that seemed to have "crushed" him 12 years prior.

Born in 1999 in Dak Nong (formerly), Duc was discovered by coach Manh Cuong in 2009 and brought to the Hanoi T&T academy for training. However, in 2013, for some unknown reason, Duc's limbs atrophied, and doctors later diagnosed him with idiopathic ankylosing spondylitis. This disease not only deprived him of his mobility but could also leave him permanently disabled if not treated promptly.

Tennis player Le Dinh Duc overcame life's toughest challenges thanks to the help of Mr. Hien.

Having learned about the situation from Coach Manh Cuong's report, Chairman Hien resolutely decided that Duc must be treated at all costs, even if Duc might no longer be able to play, hoping that he could return to a normal life.

What followed was a long and arduous journey for Duc, supported by the entire Hanoi T&T team, and backed by the unwavering financial support of his "spiritual father," Do Quang Hien. Gradually, Duc recovered, and today, through his efforts contributing to the 2025 National Men's Team Gold Medal, this is the most meaningful thank you he can send to his coaches, teammates, leaders, and above all, to Mr. Hien.

The new status of the Public Security and T&T table tennis team.

The T&T Public Security Table Tennis Club was established on May 23, 2024, after the Vietnam Public Security Sports Association and T&T Group signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the selection and training of table tennis athletes to compete for the Public Security forces.

Shortly afterwards, the CAND - T&T Club participated in the 2024 National Table Tennis Championship in Nha Trang. Although they only set a target of winning 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal, the entire team excellently exceeded the target by winning 2 gold and 3 silver medals.

At the 2025 National Table Tennis Championship, while in previous years Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City were the two main forces fiercely competing for the top spot in the overall medal standings, this year, the Public Security - T&T team has replaced Hanoi and is competing on equal footing with Ho Chi Minh City.

In the tournament's seven medal events, the Public Security - T&T team and Ho Chi Minh City team shared six gold medals each. Specifically, the Public Security - T&T team won the championship in three events: men's team, men's doubles, and men's singles; Ho Chi Minh City won the championship in three events: women's team, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. The remaining gold medal in women's singles went to Hanoi.

Besides focusing on top-level achievements, the Public Security - T&T table tennis team also invests in lower-level teams. That's why at the 2024 National Youth, Junior, and Children's Table Tennis Championships, the Public Security - T&T team excellently won first place overall with 13 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 10 bronze medals, even though the target was only 8 gold medals. This overall first-place achievement was repeated in 2025.

As the longest-serving and most closely involved coach with Hanoi T&T Club since 2008, and then with the Public Security - T&T Club from May 2024 to the present, Coach Vu Manh Cuong stated that the attention from the Public Security leadership and the T&T Group, along with the solidarity and mutual support in guiding progress from the coaching staff to the athletes between the Public Security and Hanoi T&T clubs, has doubled the strength of the cooperation between the two clubs under the new name: Public Security - T&T Table Tennis Club.

A prime example of the success of this collaboration is the case of 15-year-old police tennis player Nguyen Van Tuan Anh. Through training with Hanoi T&T coaches, Tuan Anh has made remarkable progress, winning the Southeast Asian Junior Doubles Championship in 2025 and securing three gold medals in men's singles, men's doubles, and men's team at the Vietnam Junior and Children's Tennis Championships.

Success stems from "Heart - Vision - Finance"

The success of table tennis, from Hanoi T&T to CAND - T&T, besides "Heart" and "Vision," also has another "T," which is "Money."

Following their outstanding performance at the 2025 National Championship, T&T Group awarded the CAND - T&T Football Club a prize of 1.26 billion VND.

But this is not the first time T&T Group has awarded such a large sum of money, perhaps even the largest in the country, in table tennis. Previously, on August 1, 2024, T&T Group also awarded nearly 1.5 billion VND to coaches and athletes of the CAND - T&T Club for their outstanding achievements in national tournaments in 2024.

Prior to that, T&T Group also awarded 1.15 billion VND to athletes and coaches when the Vietnamese table tennis team won 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal, and 4 bronze medals at the 2023 SEA Games.

The figures above show that professional sports in general, and table tennis in particular, cannot develop without ample financial resources. Finance is the foundation and driving force for development, but a lot of money does not necessarily guarantee success.

The Public Security-T&T Table Tennis Club receives awards after its achievements at the 2025 National Table Tennis Championship.

Just like with football, Mr. Hien is not only passionate about table tennis, but he is also willing to persistently invest from scratch. As a result, after nearly 20 years, the Public Security Table Tennis Club - T&T has consistently ranked in the top 3 nationwide, alongside Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The club also consistently leads in youth tournaments and contributes many key players to the Vietnamese national table tennis team.

Chairman Hien once said that investing in athletes' training in China, the world's number one table tennis nation, has helped the CAND - T&T athletes make significant progress. In particular, Dinh Anh Hoang brilliantly overturned the "dominance" of his senior teammate Nguyen Anh Tu (Hanoi) to win the men's singles title for the first time with a decisive 4-1 victory in the 2025 National Championship final.

Along with Anh Hoang, the CAND - T&T Club also contributed two other players, Le Dinh Duc and Tran Mai Ngoc, to the Vietnamese table tennis team at the 2025 SEA Games. The remaining 7 national team players belong to three delegations: Hai Phong (3 athletes), Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City (2 athletes each).

It was Mr. Hien, and no one else, who created the fierce and fair competition among Vietnam's top table tennis centers, thereby contributing greatly to the overall achievements of Vietnamese table tennis in the Southeast Asian arena.

***

Finally, Chairman Hien affirmed that he will continue to support and invest in the CAND - T&T Club with the desire to contribute even more to the development of Vietnamese table tennis. A consistent viewpoint of Chairman Hien is that everything he does is geared towards contributing to the national sports of Vietnam.
