Nurses at the Traditional Medicine Hospital care for patients.

One of the highlights of nursing work in Lao Cai's health sector is the Provincial Traditional Medicine Hospital, which has consistently achieved high results in patient satisfaction surveys for many years. The dedication, sense of responsibility, and perseverance of the nursing staff at the Provincial Traditional Medicine Hospital have significantly contributed to making the hospital one of the most trusted addresses for traditional medicine examination and treatment among the people.

After 6 days of treatment for vestibular disorders, patient Tran Thi Tham from Dong Cuong commune, Lao Cai province, experienced a reduction in symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, and fatigue. Sharing her feelings about the treatment, Ms. Tham emotionally said: “A friend recommended the Traditional Medicine Hospital for treatment. During the treatment process, I was very satisfied with the enthusiasm and attentiveness of the doctors and nurses.”

The heartfelt gratitude of patients is the clearest evidence of the trust and bond between patients and the nursing team. Ms. Pham Thanh Hoa, a nurse in the Rehabilitation Department, shared: "Besides our professional duties, we also provide comprehensive care for patients, both physically and mentally, to achieve the best possible treatment outcomes."

Handwritten thank-you letters are a source of motivation and joy in the work of nurses.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Song Huong, Deputy Director of the Provincial Traditional Medicine Hospital, said: "The hospital's nursing staff is currently small compared to the general regulations of the industry, but we are constantly striving to improve the quality of our human resources. The hospital has promoted on-the-job training, shift training, and sent staff for long-term training in various specialties, aiming to build a nursing team that is both highly skilled and dedicated to the profession."

Currently, the province has 3,212 nursing, midwifery, and medical technical staff, including 2,191 nurses, 573 midwives, and 448 technicians. The nurse-to-doctor ratio in the outpatient and treatment sector is 1.8 nurses per doctor, with 13 units achieving a ratio of 2 nurses per doctor or higher.

Over the past period, nursing councils have been established in 100% of hospitals, with clear operating regulations and specific task assignments for each member. Units regularly organize meetings, professional development sessions, and patient council meetings; they also review, update, and issue nursing procedures and health education and communication materials appropriate to the actual situation, contributing to improving the quality of patient care.

Comprehensive care is implemented synchronously at all medical facilities, especially for Level I patients in key departments such as: emergency resuscitation, intensive care, and obstetrics.

100% of patients who come for examination and treatment receive guidance and improved health care knowledge through various forms, such as: direct consultation, group consultations at patient council meetings, and through communication corners in wards and departments.

In addition, communication skills and ethical conduct are always given attention, helping the nursing staff become increasingly professional, dedicated, and approachable to patients.

Patients are satisfied with their treatment at the hospital.

To improve the professional quality of the nursing staff, in the first nine months of 2025, the health sector organized 206 professional training courses with 7,373 participants, including many important courses on anaphylactic shock emergency care, safe injection practices, and Circular 31/2021/TT-BYT on nursing activities in hospitals.

In addition, two inter-hospital professional development sessions were organized, attracting nearly 2,000 participants both in person and online, helping nursing staff to continuously update their medical knowledge and improve their professional skills.

Training and professional development for nurses is given special attention. Currently, the province has 317 staff members pursuing training programs from college to postgraduate levels, including 169 studying for Specialist Level I degrees, 119 studying for university degrees, and 29 studying for college-level nursing degrees. This clearly demonstrates the spirit of continuous learning to improve their ability to better serve patients.

According to Ms. Pham Bich Van, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, in the coming time, the Lao Cai health sector will focus on standardizing and improving the quality of the nursing staff; promoting innovation in comprehensive care models, putting patients at the center; strengthening the application of information technology and digital transformation in nursing work towards a smart hospital model; paying attention to improving the material and spiritual lives of nurses; creating a safe working environment; and promptly encouraging, rewarding, and honoring exemplary individuals so that the nursing profession always remains a source of pride, respected, and recognized by society.

Entering a new phase of development, and facing the ever-increasing demands of public health care, the nursing staff of Lao Cai province continues to affirm their mission and indispensable role in the healthcare system. The dedication, love for their profession, and unwavering commitment to community health demonstrated by these nurses are testaments to the beauty of medical ethics, contributing to the radiant image of Vietnamese medical professionals in the hearts of the people.
