During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh once said, “Youth is the backbone of the country, the future owner of the country, the vanguard force in building and defending the Fatherland.” Taking to heart his teachings, generations of young people from rural to urban areas today are striving to study, practice, work creatively, and contribute to society through practical movements and actions that have the power to spread and inspire the community.
Affirming courage and intelligence
The National “Excellent Young Worker” Award is organized by the Central Youth Union to reward, encourage and honor young union members who are directly working and producing at enterprises and units of all economic sectors; students at vocational training institutions with excellent achievements in studying and training.
In 2023, Quang Ninh is honored to have young union member Le Ngoc Khanh (born in 1992), Mining Technology Engineering Department (Mong Duong Coal Joint Stock Company) as the only representative to receive this award. After more than 9 years working in the mining industry, young engineer Le Ngoc Khanh has made efforts to learn, practice, and strive to bring many initiatives and solutions to help Mong Duong Coal Joint Stock Company develop and grow.
In 2015, Khanh was accepted to work at Mong Duong Coal Joint Stock Company after graduating from the University of Mining and Geology with a university degree, but he applied for a job as a tunnel worker. At that time, many people also advised Khanh to do the job to reduce the hardship, but he remained steadfast in his choice. Le Ngoc Khanh shared: “During that time, I experienced many difficulties and hardships in my career, knowing how difficult the job of a mine worker is, enough for me to gain more experience with the job, having passion makes me love this job even more”.
His efforts at work were duly recognized. At the end of 2018, Le Ngoc Khanh was transferred to the Company's Technical and Technology Department, specializing in supervising the tunnel excavation process at the market furnaces. Being responsible for his work, along with his diligence and love of exploration, always urged Khanh to research and come up with initiatives to apply to production conditions, improve working conditions and increase productivity for workers.
In 2021-2022, Khanh proposed implementing 4 initiatives and solutions related to tunnel excavation. Notably, the solutions are: "Digging a semi-oblique tunnel with ventilation at the level of -140m to -100m to fully exploit coal resources at the protection pillar of the mechanized longwall No. 1 L7-1-VM", which has maximized the remaining coal, not wasting resources, bringing a profit value of more than 3.6 billion VND to the Company; "Digging a tunnel connecting the transport seam (-250 to -180m) of the M6-7.VM seam" to serve ventilation and coal transportation for the mechanized longwall, expected to bring a profit value of over 1 billion VND when implemented.
Le Ngoc Khanh believes that professional work has many difficulties and challenges, but he always tries his best and is enthusiastic to overcome them. For him, the important thing is that he can contribute and do the work he loves. Khanh also added that the initiatives and solutions that he and his colleagues implement all come from real life. Therefore, in order for the initiatives and solutions to truly come into practice, he must delve deeper into research, explore, and come up with production plans that are suitable for the actual conditions of the Company, safe for workers, effective in production, and achieve maximum productivity.
Promoting the creative spirit of the young generation, Dr. Diep Minh Quang (born in 1989), Deputy Head of the Department of Reproductive Support (Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital) is mentioned for many initiatives, solutions, and scientific research topics that bring high practical value in professional activities, especially in the field of genetics.
In the period of 2017-2022, Dr. Quang has made many contributions to the expansion and development of the genetic unit, the Department of Reproductive Support, making the Hospital one of the strong genetic units in Vietnam, with a number of advanced techniques being deployed for the first time at a provincial hospital. The topic can be mentioned: "Research and application of pre-implantation embryo screening and diagnosis techniques", this technique is considered one of the effective steps to support the in vitro fertilization process, a new and difficult technique even for central hospitals; the provincial scientific research topic "Prenatal screening and diagnosis of thalassemia in Quang Ninh", is the largest community medical research ever in the province and is also the largest provincial community research on thalassemia in Vietnam. Young doctor Diep Minh Quang is also known as the author of many international scientific articles with valuable information, effectively serving medical research.
Doctor Diep Minh Quang said: “Regardless of position or profession, we must constantly study and improve ourselves. Especially working in the medical field, a high-pressure field, requiring doctors to always learn about advances in science and technology to serve the work of treating patients, so self-improvement of knowledge and improvement of skills will contribute to improving the quality of treatment.”
Accompanying and giving wings to dreams
In recent times, the youth of Quang Ninh Coal Union have always focused on research to promote initiatives, technical innovation, and application of science and technology in production. In 2022, Quang Ninh Coal Union had 1,328 technical innovation initiatives with a value of 59 billion VND, contributing significantly to the completion of production and business tasks of units and the Group. The entire Union is maintaining 11 club models, Youth Science and Technology Board, 308 Initiative Support Groups, and 861 members participating in the Young Engineer Club.
Technical innovation initiatives focus on researching and applying technological lines suitable for mineral deposits in areas with complex geological conditions; promoting mechanization, automation, computerization, applying digital transformation, applying modern technology in exploitation, production, and management, to improve working conditions, liberate labor, increase productivity, and save costs. Over the past 5 years, the entire Union has had 15 comrades recognized by the Central Youth Union as National Excellent Young Workers.
Secretary of the Coal Union Vu Hong Hau said: To continue spreading the "Young Creativity" movement, we continue to establish clubs, youth science and technology boards, and initiative support groups; strengthen propaganda to help young union members raise awareness and innovate thinking about applying science and technology in production; periodically organize seminars, contests, workshops, and forums on young creativity; commend and reward advanced models in the movement, so that the movement can spread more and more widely among young union members.
To continue the training and development of young people, in the period of 2022-2027, the Provincial Youth Union plans to implement 6 key projects and programs, including the projects: "Improving digital capacity for Quang Ninh youth, period 2023-2030", "Improving foreign language and information technology capacity for Quang Ninh youth, period 2023-2030", "Supporting youth start-ups and innovation, period 2023-2030". This is considered an important foundation, creating conditions for the young generation in the whole province to study, train, improve professional qualifications, skills, to meet the 4.0 technology era and the current international integration trend.
In recent times, the province has devoted many resources and prioritized the development of young human resources, such as: Organizing meetings and dialogues with university and postgraduate students with good or excellent grades; developing new preferential policies on training support, support for talented people and policies to support loans for foreign training; having a timely reward system to encourage students who win prizes in competitions to select excellent students, students who achieve good scores in entrance exams to regular universities and teachers who train students who win prizes...
In parallel, the Provincial Young Talent Support Fund (established in 1992) is considered a launching pad, nurturing many young talents of the province to excel in their studies and training. With 31 years of accompanying young talents of the province, the Fund has discovered, supported and honored over 4,000 young talents.
Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union Hoang Van Hai said: The young generation of Quang Ninh is increasingly promoting their bravery and intelligence, taking the lead in carrying out many important tasks. Accompanying the young generation of the province, the Provincial Youth Union continues to organize and improve the quality of companion programs and competitions to stimulate creative ideas among young people, discover more talents and young people with qualities and development capabilities, build a network of young talents in the whole province, and together promote youth and intelligence to build an increasingly prosperous homeland.
