President Ho Chi Minh once said, "Youth are the pillars of the nation, the future masters of the country, and the vanguard force in building and defending the Fatherland." Bearing in mind his teachings, generations of young people, from rural areas to cities, are today striving to study, train, and work creatively, contributing to society through practical movements and actions that have a widespread impact and inspire the community.
Asserting courage and intelligence
The national "Outstanding Young Worker" award, organized by the Central Committee of the Youth Union, aims to commend, encourage, and honor young people who are directly involved in labor and production at enterprises and units of various economic sectors, as well as students at vocational education institutions who have achieved outstanding results in their studies and training.
In 2023, Quang Ninh province was honored to have young union member Le Ngoc Khanh (born in 1992), from the Mining Technology Department (Mong Duong Coal Joint Stock Company), as the sole representative to receive this award. Having dedicated over 9 years to the mining industry, young engineer Le Ngoc Khanh has diligently learned, trained, and strived to bring forth numerous initiatives and solutions that have helped Mong Duong Coal Joint Stock Company develop and progress.
In 2015, after graduating from the University of Mining and Geology with a university degree, Khanh was hired by Mong Duong Coal Joint Stock Company, but he applied for a job as a mine worker. Many people advised him to take a less strenuous job, but he remained steadfast in his choice. Le Ngoc Khanh shared: “During that time, I experienced many difficulties and hardships in my profession, learning how arduous the work of a mine worker is. This gave me more experience in the profession, and I became more passionate and passionate about this job.”
His hard work and dedication were deservedly recognized. At the end of 2018, Le Ngoc Khanh was transferred to the Company's Technology Department, specializing in supervising tunnel excavation at the mines. His responsibility, diligence, and inquisitive nature constantly motivated him to research and develop innovative ideas to improve production conditions, enhance working conditions, and increase employee productivity.
In the two years of 2021-2022, Khanh proposed the implementation of four initiatives and solutions related to tunnel excavation. Notably, these solutions include: “Excavating semi-oblique ventilation tunnels at levels -140m to -100m to maximize coal resource recovery at the guard post of mechanized longwall No. 1 L7-1-VM”, which maximized the recovery of remaining coal, preventing resource waste and generating a profit of over 3.6 billion VND for the company; and “Excavating cross-seam transport tunnels (-250 to -180m) of seam M6-7.VM” to serve ventilation and coal transportation for the mechanized longwall, expected to generate a profit of over 1 billion VND upon implementation.
Le Ngoc Khanh believes that his professional work presents many difficulties and challenges, but he always strives and is enthusiastic to overcome them. For him, what matters most is being able to contribute and do the work he loves. Khanh also added that the initiatives and solutions he and his colleagues implement all stem from real-life situations. Therefore, to make these initiatives and solutions truly practical, he has to delve deeper into research and development, coming up with production methods that are suitable for the company's actual conditions, safe for workers, and effective in production, achieving maximum productivity.
Embracing the creative spirit of the younger generation, Dr. Diep Minh Quang (born in 1989), Deputy Head of the Reproductive Support Department (Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital), is recognized for his numerous initiatives, solutions, and scientific research projects that bring high practical value to his professional activities, especially in the field of genetics.
During the period 2017-2022, Dr. Quang made significant contributions to expanding and developing the genetics unit of the Assisted Reproductive Technology Department, making the hospital one of Vietnam's leading genetics units, with several advanced techniques being implemented for the first time at a provincial-level hospital. Notable achievements include: the research project: "Research and application of preimplantation genetic diagnosis and screening techniques," a technique considered a significant advancement supporting the in-vitro fertilization process, a new and challenging technique even for central-level hospitals; and the provincial-level scientific research project "Prenatal screening and diagnosis of thalassemia in Quang Ninh," the largest community-based medical study ever conducted in the province and also the largest provincial-level community-based study on thalassemia in Vietnam. Dr. Diep Minh Quang is also known as the author of numerous international scientific articles containing valuable information that effectively serves medical research.
Dr. Diep Minh Quang stated: "Regardless of our position or profession, we must constantly learn and improve ourselves. Especially in the medical field, a high-pressure industry that requires doctors to always keep up with advancements in science and technology to better serve patients, self-improvement and skill enhancement contribute to improving the quality of treatment."

The entire Union currently maintains 11 models of Youth Science and Technology Clubs and Committees, 308 Initiative Support Teams, and 861 members participating in the Young Engineers Club.
Technical innovation initiatives focus on researching and applying technological lines suitable for mineral deposits in areas with complex geological conditions; promoting mechanization, automation, computerization, applying digital transformation, and applying modern technology in mining, production, and management, in order to improve working conditions, free up labor, increase productivity, and save costs. Over the past five years, 15 members of the Youth Union have been honored by the Central Youth Union as outstanding young workers nationwide.
According to Vu Hong Hau, Secretary of the Youth Union of Than Coal Mining Group: "To continue spreading the 'Young Innovators' movement, we will continue to establish clubs, youth science and technology committees, and innovation support groups; strengthen propaganda to raise awareness among young people and change their thinking about applying science and technology in production; periodically organize thematic workshops, competitions, seminars, and forums on young innovators; and commend and reward outstanding examples in the movement, so that the movement will spread even more widely among young people."
To further support the training and development of young people, the Provincial Youth Union plans to implement six key projects and programs during the 2022-2027 period, including: “Enhancing digital capacity for Quang Ninh youth, 2023-2030”, “Enhancing foreign language and computer skills for Quang Ninh youth, 2023-2030”, and “Supporting youth entrepreneurship and innovation, 2023-2030”. These are considered important foundations, creating conditions for the younger generation throughout the province to study, train, and improve their professional skills and expertise, meeting the demands of the Industry 4.0 era and the current trend of international integration.
Over the past period, the province has allocated significant resources and prioritized the development of young human resources, such as: organizing meetings and dialogues with university and postgraduate graduates who achieved good or excellent grades; developing new incentive policies to support training, support talented individuals, and policies to support loans for overseas training; and implementing timely reward systems to encourage students who win prizes in student excellence competitions, students who achieve high scores in entrance exams to regular university programs, and teachers who train students who win prizes...
In parallel, the Provincial Youth Talent Support Fund (established in 1992) is considered a launching pad, nurturing many young talents in the province to excel in their studies and training. With 31 years of accompanying the province's young talents, the Fund has discovered, supported, and honored over 4,000 young talents.
According to Hoang Van Hai, Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union: The young generation of Quang Ninh is increasingly demonstrating its courage, intelligence, and pioneering spirit in carrying out many important tasks. In parallel with the province's youth, the Provincial Youth Union continues to organize and improve the quality of accompanying programs and competitions to inspire creative ideas among young people, discover more talents and young people with potential and ability to develop, build a network of young talents throughout the province, and together leverage the energy and intelligence of youth to build an increasingly prosperous homeland.
