Pac Bo – a meeting point of historical memory and the present.
On January 28, 1941, after more than 30 years of wandering in search of a way to save the country, President Ho Chi Minh returned to his homeland, setting foot in Pac Bo (Truong Ha commune, Cao Bang province).
This event marked a decisive turning point for the Vietnamese revolution, as the domestic movement was directly led, organized, and prepared for the August 1945 General Uprising.
Eighty-five years later, Pac Bo was once again chosen as the center of a series of commemorative activities, with the highlight being the national televised program taking place on the evening of January 28, 2026.
The program was broadcast live on VTV1, the VTVgo digital platform, and reported on the radio waves of the Voice of Vietnam . The main broadcast point was located at the Pac Bo National Special Historical Site, connecting with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Nghe An – the birthplace of President Ho Chi Minh.
With a running time of 90 minutes, the meticulously produced program combines historical documents, performing arts, and thematic reports, recreating the journey "back home" as the starting point for the aspiration for national independence.
From commemoration to cultural creation
The series of commemorative activities did not stop at formal ceremonies, but expanded into the realm of cultural creativity.
The art and journalism workshop "Light from Pac Bo," organized by the Cao Bang Provincial Association of Literature and Arts in January 2026, is an opportunity for artists, journalists, and photographers to explore the historical depth, people, and landscape of Pac Bo using contemporary artistic language.
In addition, the commemorative art program held at the Ho Chi Minh Monument (Thuc Phan Ward, Cao Bang) with brass band performances, cavalry shows, and art programs for the people contributed to bringing history out of the confines of exhibitions, integrating it into community life, and creating a connection between revolutionary memory and contemporary life.

Teaching history through technology and experience.
A notable highlight is the development of digital learning materials and the educational tour "Following in Uncle Ho's Footsteps to the Source". Through digital lectures, multimedia materials, and experiential learning trips, history is conveyed in a visual and engaging way, targeting students and the younger generation.
Simultaneously, the online quiz competition on "President Ho Chi Minh's Journey to National Salvation" and "Uncle Ho and Cao Bang" attracted widespread participation from officials, Party members, and the people, contributing to strengthening historical awareness in a format suitable for the digital environment.
Science – the foundation for understanding history
On an academic level, the scientific conference "The Historical Significance of President Ho Chi Minh's Return to Vietnam" served as a forum for researchers, lecturers, and history experts to analyze and clarify the historical, ideological, and contemporary value of the event of January 28, 1941. The presentations also affirmed the special role of Cao Bang as a "red address," a place associated with a strategic turning point in the Vietnamese revolution.
Towards sustainable development of historical tourism.
Besides commemorative activities, Cao Bang is also implementing long-term initiatives such as surveying and developing a historical tourism route called "Following in Uncle Ho's Footsteps," connecting revolutionary sites in Vietnam and the Guangxi region (China).
Together with the Ho Chi Minh Cultural Space currently under construction, this is considered a foundation for transforming historical heritage into a cultural and tourism resource, serving the sustainable socio-economic development of the locality.
The series of activities commemorating the 85th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's return to Vietnam is therefore not only an opportunity to recall a significant historical milestone, but also a process of renewing the approach to history, so that from Pac Bo of yesteryear, the light of Ho Chi Minh's thought continues to spread in life today and in the future.
