VHO - Through various forms, the folk game Bài Chòi is effectively utilized and exploited by localities in Quang Ngai province, creating richness for tourism products.

The Bài Chòi - Hát Hố Club of Gò Cỏ village, Phổ Thạnh ward, Đức Phổ town, was established in May 2020 with 21 members. Ms. Huỳnh Thị Thương, a Bài Chòi artist from Gò Cỏ village, shared: "Since childhood, I grew up listening to Bài Chòi melodies, so I know many of the lyrics passed down from my ancestors by heart." Ms. Thương has also composed nearly 20 new songs to entertain locals and tourists. Then, she hummed: “Come to Gò Cỏ to play/ Listen to the birds chirping along the road/ Travelers journey through their homeland/ Feel the deep affection and love for their fellow countrymen.”
Along with Ms. Thuong, Ms. Bui Thi Van, also a member of the club, shared: “Despite the ups and downs of life, the love for Bai Choi (a traditional Vietnamese folk game) still burns in the hearts of the people of Go Co. We work together to build a cultural movement, perform, and compose Bai Choi... to serve the villagers and tourists.”
Ms. Truong Thu Huong, a tourist from Quang Ngai City, happily said: “This is my first time participating in the Bài Chòi game, and it's very impressive and fascinating. Especially the singing and chanting by the artists is excellent. I will definitely return to Go Co village to participate again.”
Visiting the Bau Ca Cai eco-tourism site in Binh Thuan commune, Binh Son district, tourists not only enjoy exploring the pristine nature but also get to experience the traditional Bai Choi folk songs. It's delightful to sit on a small boat, explore the vast, picturesque mangrove swamps, and listen to the folk artists sing Bai Choi.
Distinguished artisan Nguyen Van Thu, head of the folk singing and traditional folk game club in Binh Thuan commune, said that in recent times, folk game troupes have regularly performed for tourists, including many foreign visitors. “Community tourism in Bau Ca Cai is developing rapidly, and folk games are considered a tourism product, which makes us very happy. This helps preserve and promote the art of folk games in contemporary life,” artisan Thu said.
According to Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Thuan commune, the community tourism model at Ca Cai lake has been implemented since 2019, with more than 40 households participating. The commune has established a rowing team, a cooking team, and a homestay team with 10 participating households, as well as a traditional folk singing group to serve tourists. From the beginning of the year until now, Ca Cai lake has welcomed approximately over 7,000 visitors.
Promoting the value of the Bài Chòi art heritage.
According to the Project for the Preservation and Promotion of Bài Chòi Art in the province, the goal is to strive to achieve 100% collection, inventory, digitization, and storage of Bài Chòi cultural and artistic heritage by 2025 using modern technology; to build and organize pilot performances of Bài Chòi art for the people and tourists at one tourist destination; and to re-establish a pilot Bài Chòi folk game venue in Quang Ngai City. In addition, the project aims to maintain the established Bài Chòi center and ensure that 100% of districts, towns, and cities in the delta and islands establish Bài Chòi clubs at the district level…
By 2030, the goal is to expand the model of organizing Bài Chòi folk art performances to serve the people and tourists at tourist destinations in the delta and island areas, and to revive the Bài Chòi folk game venues in districts, towns, and cities. Simultaneously, the aim is to have 50% of communes, wards, and towns in the delta and island areas establish Bài Chòi clubs at the commune level.
According to Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in order to preserve and promote the art of Bai Choi, the department has developed a Project on the Preservation and Promotion of Bai Choi Art in the province, which has been approved by the Provincial People's Committee.
"The project focuses on researching, collecting, and comprehensively evaluating the value of the Bài Chòi heritage to widely disseminate it to the public; training music teachers and talented singers to become core members of Bài Chòi singing groups; forming and developing more Bài Chòi singing teams, groups, and clubs in localities, linking this art form with tourism development. Quang Ngai will organize the teaching of Bài Chòi in schools by integrating it into the music curriculum...", Mr. Dung emphasized.
