Celebrating the Cherry Blossom Festival

On January 11th, Dien Bien Phu city (Dien Bien province) held the opening ceremony of the Dien Bien Phu Cherry Blossom Festival 2025 and an art program with the theme "Village in Spring - Cherry Blossoms in Bloom" at Hoa Island, Pa Khoang commune, Dien Bien Phu city.

This year's Cherry Blossom Festival, held from January 10-12, features a variety of engaging activities, including: spectacular art performances; stalls showcasing high-quality agricultural products and OCOP (One Commune One Product) products; and displays of the city's cultural and tourism products.

In addition, the festival includes cultural spaces for three ethnic groups: Thai, Mong, and Khmu; stalls showcasing and promoting local cuisine; a culinary competition titled "Flavors of Dien Bien"; pa pao throwing performances; kayak racing on Pa Khoang Lake; a competition for wrapping green sticky rice cakes; and competitions in traditional ethnic sports ...

In his opening remarks at the festival, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien Phu City, Nguyen Quang Hung, stated that organizing the Cherry Blossom Festival clearly demonstrates the direction of Dien Bien tourism, linking tourism development with cultural preservation; considering culture as the foundation to promote the development of distinctive tourism types in the province.

At the same time, it demonstrates innovation in thinking and doing to build new, unique, and attractive tourism products, contributing to promoting tourism development and contributing to the overall socio-economic development of Dien Bien province.

Immediately following the opening ceremony was a spectacular art performance with the theme "The Muong Village Welcomes Spring - Cherry Blossoms in Bloom."

The program consists of three chapters: Impressions of the Border Region; The Fragrance and Beauty of Cherry Blossoms; and Aspiration and Development.

The performances featured artists and actors from professional art units of the Central Government and Dien Bien province; and folk art troupes and people in Dien Bien Phu city...

The artistic performances showcase the traditional culture of Dien Bien province in particular and Vietnam in general, celebrating love for the homeland and country through singing, dancing, and commentary that connects the performances based on the overarching theme of the program.

In 2024, the activities of the National Tourism Year, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, created a strong attraction, resulting in Dien Bien welcoming its highest number of tourists for the first time, reaching over 1.85 million visitors, far exceeding the planned target (1.3 million visitors), including 11,500 international tourists.

Total revenue from tourism activities reached over 3,321 billion VND (the plan was 2,200 billion VND), making a significant contribution to promoting economic, cultural, and social development, ensuring national defense and security, expanding foreign relations, and bringing the GRDP growth of Dien Bien province in 2024 to over 10%...

The Cherry Blossom Festival - Dien Bien Phu 2025 marks the beginning of activities to celebrate the country's and province's political events in 2025; to welcome the new year 2025 and to celebrate the Party Congress at all levels.

The festival also serves as an opportunity to promote the image of the people and homeland of Dien Bien, attracting and encouraging investors and tourists to come to Dien Bien to explore possibilities for investment, trade, and tourism cooperation.
