This is the first year Hanoi has applied GIS digital mapping combined with artificial intelligence to support primary school enrollment.
To ensure a smooth registration process, for months prior, localities and educational institutions simultaneously organized training sessions, conducted numerous trial runs, reviewed student data, and prepared facilities and personnel to readily support parents.
Proactive approach from the grassroots level.
As one of the localities that completed the preparations early, Quang Minh commune directed schools to develop various support plans for parents right from the system's trial run phase.
At 0:00 on July 1st, the Hanoi City Primary School Enrollment Portal https://tsdaucap.hanoi.gov.vn officially opened to receive online applications for first grade. Following this, preschool enrollment (ages 3 to 5) will take place from July 4th to 6th, and enrollment for sixth grade will be from July 7th to 9th.
At Dai Thinh B Kindergarten, Principal Ha Thi Hong Hanh stated that the application of GIS mapping is a positive innovation, bringing many advantages to both parents and the school.

Immediately after participating in training sessions organized by the city and local authorities, the school continued to organize retraining for the entire Admissions Council to standardize procedures, operations, and support methods for parents.
"During the first trial run, we also encountered some difficulties in determining the location on the map. However, after receiving guidance and adjustments from the relevant authorities, the next two trial runs went smoothly and achieved the required results," said Ms. Ha Thi Hong Hanh.
According to Ms. Ha Thi Hong Hanh, the biggest advantage is that parents only need to use a smartphone or computer with an internet connection to register their children for enrollment from anywhere, without having to go to the school in person.
For preschool children, many are enrolling for the first time and therefore do not yet have accounts. After receiving feedback from parents, the school requested and received guidance on supplementing the process of issuing identification codes, making account creation easier.
The school has established an admissions committee comprising experienced administrators and teachers with IT skills; and has also prepared sufficient computers and high-speed internet access to support parents throughout the admissions process.
For the 2026-2027 school year, Dai Thinh B Kindergarten has been allocated 130 enrollment slots. The school principal reminds parents to remember the correct enrollment period for kindergarten, from July 4th to 6th. The school is always ready to assist if any difficulties arise during the registration process.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ngo Luong Ngoc, Deputy Principal of Thanh Lam B Secondary School, said that for the 2026-2027 school year, the school has been assigned to enroll 200 sixth-grade students. After three trial enrollment rounds, all scenarios have been reviewed and supplemented to be ready to handle any situations that may arise during the official enrollment days.

The school has set up a separate admissions office on the first floor with multiple computers connected to broadband internet for easy access by parents, and has also established an Admissions Committee consisting of staff who have received professional training and directly participated in trial runs.
According to Mr. Ngoc, one of the tasks the school is particularly focusing on during this year's enrollment period is reviewing the enrollment criteria. In addition to compiling statistics on the number of students from Thanh Lam B Primary School, Kim Hoa B Primary School, and some students from Chi Dong Primary School, the school is also surveying each family's access to technology to determine which parents can register themselves, and which cases require assistance or have someone else register on their behalf.
For students who are studying and living in other localities but only return at the time of enrollment, the school has also prepared appropriate reception plans.

"We not only prepared in terms of personnel and technology but also developed various scenarios to support parents, such as forgetting passwords, unsuccessful registrations, or wanting to recheck registration results. Through three trials, parents have also understood that the digital map is only a tool to support enrollment and does not determine enrollment, so they no longer worry about the distance from their home to the school," Mr. Ngo Luong Ngoc shared.
Partnering with parents
According to Mr. Nghiem Van Binh, Head of the Examination Management and Quality Assurance Department of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, online enrollment for primary and secondary schools has been implemented by the city for over 10 years and has yielded clear results in facilitating convenience for citizens as well as ensuring openness and transparency.

For the 2026-2027 school year, Hanoi will continue to maintain online enrollment but will adjust the process to promote digital transformation in order to increase transparency and convenience for parents and students.
A notable new feature is the application of GIS (Geographical Information System) maps and artificial intelligence (AI). The system uses digital maps to accurately determine the actual residential location of students relative to schools; at the same time, AI analyzes enrollment quotas and population density in each area to support school placement.
Mr. Binh emphasized that digital maps and AI are merely supporting tools and do not change the current regulations on student enrollment. The goal is to make the school placement process more scientific and transparent, and to create conditions for students to attend the school closest to their place of residence.
Another new feature this year is that school placement is no longer solely dependent on administrative boundaries but is supported by the principle of prioritizing schools near residences, contributing to the efficient use of the school network in the area.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training also noted that after successful online registration, parents should carefully check the accuracy and consistency of all enrollment documents. Information such as full name, date of birth, place of birth, and residential address must match the birth certificate and other related documents.

In case any errors are discovered or information needs correction, parents should not worry too much because the school will guide and support them in completing the necessary procedures.
Notably, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training does not require parents to submit original documents when completing enrollment procedures. Parents only need to submit photocopies and bring the originals for verification when needed; and unnecessary notarization or certification procedures are not required, minimizing inconvenience. However, parents are responsible for the accuracy of the information declared in the enrollment application.
