Specifically, under the post of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) about the result of the match in which U17 Malaysia lost 0-4 to Vietnam and lost the ticket to the 2026 AFC U17 finals, a fan named Jacklyn Sanchez Chia wrote: "The U17 World Cup has been expanded to 48 teams, with Asia having 8 slots. Yet the 2026 AFC U17 Championship still only has 16 teams. Why not expand to 24 teams?".

This comment received a lot of mixed opinions. Some fans agreed that AFC should increase the number of teams to create a playground for young teams.

However, many Malaysian fans also think that their team with such poor performance should not participate in the Asian tournament.

Regista Regista fan wrote: "Don't let such a weak team participate in the Asian tournament, it's really not worthy." Another fan named Champist commented: "This is not a problem. U17 Malaysia is too weak."

Many fans also expressed their disappointment with Malaysian youth football and said that Malaysian teams would not be able to beat anyone without naturalization. "Our youth team and the national team are still far behind Asian standards." Fan Pangala commented: "Disappointed, let's focus on youth football instead of naturalization."

The Malaysian press also expressed disappointment when reporting on the country's U17 team. Astro Stadium newspaper used the word "disastrous" to headline the defeat of U17 Malaysia against U17 Vietnam. The article also described the U17 Vietnam players as too strong and playing at home.
