The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar have recalled several batches of Nestlé infant formula after the company proactively warned of potential risks related to toxins in the product.
According to the state news agency WAM, the United Arab Emirates' pharmaceutical regulatory authority has initiated a recall of several batches of Nestlé infant formula, although no cases of illness or adverse reactions related to the affected products have been reported so far.
On the same day, the Qatari Ministry of Public Health also advised citizens not to use certain batches of Nestlé infant formula due to suspected contamination with cereulide – a toxin that can cause nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
Previously, Nestlé announced the recall of several infant formula products, including the SMA, BEBA, and NAN brands, primarily in Europe. The cause was identified as an ingredient from an external supplier that potentially contained cereulide.
Nestlé stated that it has switched to alternative sources of supply and increased the distribution of safe products to ensure supply in the market.
