(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Ukrainian Navy Commander Alexey Neizhpapa announced that Kyiv has had "positive discussions" about launching a third attack on the Crimean Bridge.

The British newspaper The Observer noted that the Ukrainian Navy commander "expressed optimism" that Kyiv would succeed in destroying the Crimean Bridge (also known as the Kerch Bridge), which Russia built to connect its territory with the Moscow-controlled Crimean Peninsula.
He emphasized that the two previous attacks had damaged road and railway infrastructure, making it impossible for the Russian army to transport heavy train cars across the railway bridge anymore.
The Ukrainian Navy commander stated: "The Russians understand that we are actively discussing a third operation."
Mr. Neizhpapa also described the conflict with Russia as a technological race dominated by unmanned vehicles. He said Moscow had developed "quite effective" methods to counter naval drone attacks.
Ukraine responded by transforming unmanned vehicles into fast-moving attack platforms. He said engineers added anti-aircraft weapons to shoot down helicopters as well as FPV drones.
Russia, which gained control of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014, subsequently built a 19km bridge across the Kerch Strait. This is the only road and rail link connecting the peninsula to mainland Russia.
Since the Russia-Ukraine conflict broke out more than three years ago, the bridge has become a crucial supply route for Moscow's forces on the southern front. This is also why the Crimean Bridge has repeatedly been targeted by Ukrainian attacks aimed at cutting off Moscow's vital supply line.
Ukraine has repeatedly emphasized that this is a legitimate objective of Kyiv's forces.
Prior to this, Ukraine had carried out at least two successful attacks on the Crimean Bridge.
The first attack, involving a truck packed with explosives, occurred on the morning of October 8, 2022, the day after Russian President Vladimir Putin's 70th birthday.
The following day, Russia's opposition news agency Meduza described the Crimean Bridge, damaged in the October 8 explosion, as one of the most heavily guarded areas in the world , both on land, in the air, at sea, and even from space.
Ukraine launched a second attack on the night of July 17, 2023, using the Navy's Sea Baby unmanned boats.
Subsequently, multiple sources confirmed that Russian forces had deployed barges south of the Crimean Bridge, which were reportedly intended to act as a "barrier" against Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles at sea.
Speaking on national television on August 2, 2024, Ukraine's Director of Defense Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov said that Ukraine does not rule out the possibility of the Crimean Bridge being destroyed within a few months.
Earlier, he said, Kyiv could use long-range weapons supplied by the West to target the Crimean Bridge.
In response, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow considers threats to attack the Crimean Bridge to be "terrorism."
Russia accuses the West of supplying weapons that helped Ukraine carry out attacks on the Crimean Bridge and the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the Crimean Peninsula.
