T&T's application of AI: A "super port" in logistics.

Báo Quốc TếBáo Quốc Tế01/10/2024

The Vinh Phuc ICD (Inland Container Depot) will integrate the world's most advanced AI technology, combined with groundbreaking technological solutions to enhance the efficiency of Vietnam's logistics system, making Vietnam a strategic link in the global supply chain.

On the morning of October 1st, the Vietnam Innovation Day 2024 and the 5th anniversary celebration of the National Innovation Center (NIC) took place at the Hoa Lac High-Tech Park (Hanoi). The event was honored with the participation of the Prime Minister, leaders from various ministries, central and local agencies; leading global "big tech" companies such as Meta, Nvidia, Qualcomm… and several major domestic corporations such as T&T Group, Viettel, Sovico, FPT, THACO

At the event, the Vinh Phuc ICD - Vietnam SuperPort™, a joint venture between T&T Group and YCH Group (Singapore), presented an incredibly impressive Apple Vision Pro experience to visualize the new future of Vietnam SuperPort™. Virtual reality technology highlighted the “Park within a Park™” model, integrating all supply chain management services across road, rail, air, and sea in a single logistics center. This initiative helps create seamless connectivity, enhance supply chain efficiency, and strengthen Vietnam SuperPort™'s position as a key player in the regional logistics industry.

Vinh Phuc ICD, a "mega-port," is pioneering the development of groundbreaking technological solutions.

Presenting to the Prime Minister at the Vietnam Innovation Day 2024, Dr. Yap Kwong Weng, CEO of Vietnam SuperPort™, stated that Vietnam SuperPort™ will integrate artificial intelligence (AI) solutions that have been successfully implemented in the Supply Chain City (SCC) in Singapore, which YCH Group had previously developed successfully.

Typical examples include Automated Storage and Pickup Systems (ASRS), Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs), Drone-based Inventory Management Systems, and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs). According to T&Y experts, applying ASRS technology can optimize storage space by up to 7 times and reduce warehouse transit time by 95%.

Alternatively, replacing humans and fixed camera systems with drones for inventory control can significantly reduce the time required, taking only 12 minutes to complete an inventory count (whereas previously it would have taken two people and a full day to count the goods in a large warehouse).

Notably, according to T&Y representatives, in addition to leveraging modern AI technologies already successfully applied at Supply Chain City, the Vinh Phuc ICD "super port" will pioneer groundbreaking technological solutions by continuing to cooperate with leading global technology partners to develop new technologies such as advanced warehouse robots to optimize workflows and accelerate order processing; an ESG platform using blockchain and AI technology to develop digital twin to track and minimize carbon footprints; and the development of an integrated logistics market to connect businesses and logistics service providers, enhancing transparency and improving access to capital through AI.

Dr. Yap Kwong Weng, CEO of Vietnam SuperPort™, gave a presentation on the future of the "super port".

Vietnam SuperPort™ – the first “super port” in the ASEAN smart logistics network, and one of the largest logistics centers in Northern Vietnam. This multimodal logistics port, covering an area of 83 hectares and with a total investment of approximately US$200 million, is located in the industrial hub of Binh Xuyen, Vinh Phuc province. It is developed by T&Y SuperPort Vinh Phuc JSC – a joint venture between T&T Group (owned by Mr. Hien) and YCH Group (Singapore).

Located on the Northern Economic Corridor, Vietnam SuperPort™ connects 20 industrial parks with major seaports and airports, including Hai Phong, Noi Bai, and extending to Yunnan and Kunming provinces in China. Benefiting from nearly 70 years of logistics experience from the YCH Group, Vietnam SuperPort™ also leverages its advantageous connectivity to global supply hubs across Asia, including China, India, and Southeast Asia.

Vietnam SuperPort™ is positioned as a strategic multimodal logistics hub, connecting the China-Southeast Asia freight network with global markets via road, rail, air, and sea. As a crucial node in the ASEAN smart logistics network, Vietnam SuperPort™ is being built to enhance regional integration and cross-border trade, fostering a seamless, faster, and smarter supply chain.

“Vietnam SuperPort™ is not just building infrastructure. We are creating a sustainable and advanced ecosystem, strongly applying modern technologies to enhance the efficiency of the logistics system in Vietnam, expanding the supply chain from China to the ASEAN region. With Vietnam SuperPort™, we are together ushering in a new era of the logistics industry, making Vietnam a strategic link in the global supply chain,” the CEO of Vietnam SuperPort™ affirmed to the Prime Minister at the Vietnam Innovation Day 2024.

Opening a new era for the logistics industry.

According to the World Bank (WB), Vietnam ranks 43rd in the 2023 Logistics Performance Index (LPI). Singapore holds the top position in this ranking.

According to the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA), Vietnam's logistics costs currently average 16.8-17% of GDP, significantly higher than the global average of 10.6%. Within the ASEAN region, Vietnam's logistics costs are higher than those of Singapore (8.5%), Malaysia (13%), and Thailand (15.5%).

Singapore is known as one of the world's most advanced countries in the field of logistics. It is considered a model for planning, investment, and development of the logistics service industry at the regional and global levels. One of the key factors that has helped this island nation rank among the world's leading logistics providers and contribute to its national economic prosperity is the application of technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and IoT to optimize logistics processes, improve operational efficiency, and reduce logistics costs. The application of these advanced technologies is expected to soon bring Singapore's logistics costs down to 5% or even lower.

In Vietnam, the application of artificial intelligence technology in logistics is currently an urgent solution. According to Decision No. 200 of the Prime Minister, one of the tasks aimed at enhancing the competitiveness and development of Vietnam's logistics services by 2025 is to "research and apply new technologies, technical advancements, and modern technologies in management, operation, and training in the supply chain to achieve higher quality logistics services."

According to the National Digital Transformation Program until 2025, with a vision to 2030, approved by the Prime Minister, logistics is one of the eight sectors that need to be prioritized for digital transformation.

The application of technology in logistics offers numerous benefits. Research shows that applying technology to logistics operations helps businesses reduce delivery costs by 14% and increase the number of goods delivered per vehicle by 13%. Furthermore, breakthrough technologies allow logistics companies and service providers to further optimize costs and increase delivery productivity by intelligently planning routes to ensure more pickup and delivery times.

Furthermore, AI in logistics helps enhance the competitiveness of domestic logistics businesses, becoming a driving force to attract investment, especially from FDI enterprises and "big tech" companies in technology, microchips, semiconductors, etc.
