Spreading a love of books in schools.
The Gia Lai Province Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2026, organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Department of Education and Training, is open to students from grades 1-12 throughout the province.

According to the Organizing Committee's statistics, the competition attracted 42,342 entries. Of these, the eastern part of the province received 23,963 entries, and the western part of the province received 18,379 entries.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, Director of Pleiku Library, said: “Compared to previous years, this year's competition attracted more schools in the western part of the province, and the entries were of higher quality. Many entries came from students in remote areas and ethnic minority communities, but they participated fully and wrote very insightful essays, demonstrating that they dedicated a lot of time to reading and reflecting. This is a positive sign showing that reading culture is truly permeating school life.”
Many students chose to introduce books on national history, local cultural heritage, inspiring stories of overcoming adversity, and works that promote a beautiful life. In particular, many essays boldly proposed models for developing a reading culture linked to digital platforms, e-libraries, and social media.
Having won two consecutive second prizes in the 2024 and 2025 competitions, Ngo Tran Yen Nhi (Class 12A3, Nguyen Dieu High School, Tuy Phuoc Dong commune) continues to participate in this meaningful event this year. She expresses her love for cultural heritage through her essay on the value of historical sites in the eastern part of the province.
"Reading more books about the history, culture, and people of Gia Lai to write my essay for the competition helped me learn many new things, understand more about the beauty of my hometown's culture, and gave me more motivation to study," Yến Nhi shared.
Bringing books closer to readers.
According to the organizers, this year's competition has many new features. Not only has the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism guided localities to create open-ended exam questions, but it also encourages entries to incorporate local elements through writing about the geography and cultural heritage of their hometowns, and proposing initiatives to develop a reading culture...
Many students applied information technology to present, decorate, and illustrate their exam papers more vividly; schools organized school-wide competitions, selecting high-quality entries to participate at the provincial level.

According to Mr. Tran Xuan Nhat, Deputy Director of the Provincial Library: It is encouraging that many entries not only demonstrate a love of books but also show critical thinking and creativity. The students have learned to view books as a tool for learning, exploring, and self-development; and have proposed many practical initiatives to promote reading culture.
According to the plan, in August, the Organizing Committee will hold the closing ceremony and awards presentation for the Gia Lai Province Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2026. Accordingly, 80 individual prizes and 8 team prizes will be awarded to units with outstanding achievements in the contest.
"The most significant change this year is that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will not be judging the final round of the competition as in previous years. After judging and awarding prizes, the provincial-level competition organizers will select three outstanding entries to be submitted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for recognition as National Reading Culture Ambassadors," Mr. Nhat stated.
The annual Reading Culture Ambassador Contest is one of the important activities in the development of reading culture that Gia Lai province has persistently implemented for many years.
Ms. Huynh Thi Anh Thao, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, informed: For more than 12 years since the launch of the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21), the public library system in the province has continuously innovated its service methods, diversified reading promotion activities, and brought books closer to the people, especially young people in remote areas.
“Besides investing in infrastructure and supplementing book resources, the Culture sector has implemented many activities such as the series of Vietnamese Book and Reading Culture Days, mobile library vehicles, book circulation to grassroots levels, building community libraries, organizing book introduction and storytelling competitions, and the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest. These activities are gradually forming a reading habit in the community, especially among the younger generation,” Ms. Thao said.
