The earliest match will take place on Friday (January 30th) between the two teams currently close together in the standings: Hong Linh Ha Tinh (15 points, 7th place) and Becamex Ho Chi Minh City (11 points, 6th place).
With the current points difference, even a win away from home wouldn't immediately improve Becamex TPHCM (BHCMC)'s position; however, at least, the team under new head coach Ueno Nobuhiro (a Japanese national, replacing coach Dang Tran Chinh) will narrow the gap to a minimum, ready to move ahead later.
This is the second time the coach has been changed before the season is even halfway through (previously, Coach Dang Tran Chinh replaced Coach Nguyen Anh Duc). Even more interesting is that Nobuhiro's first "opponent" is Nguyen Cong Manh – who previously coached Becamex Ho Chi Minh City in the most recent season.
Upon arriving in Ha Tinh, this young coach faced pressure from comparisons to his predecessor Nguyen Thanh Cong, coupled with the departure of several key players. However, Hong Linh Ha Tinh has maintained consistent performance, particularly with an unbeaten record in their last five home matches (3 wins, 2 draws).
For these reasons, many people would probably lean towards the home team winning, because whether BHCMC can "rise up" under the leadership of the new Japanese "captain" remains an unknown.

The remaining matches of Round 12 will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
